**Oregon Tax Credit:** The State of Oregon offers an income tax credit of $5,000 for physicians practicing in La Grande, which is equivalent to earning another estimated $9,930 in base salary not reflected in the numbers above. With the Mount Emily Recreation Area just two miles from La Grande, there are nearly 3,700 acres of year-round access to the Blue Mountains. In winter, it is a popular place for back-country skiing and snow-shoeing. Union County is also home to Eastern Oregon University.
