Summary
The Central Technician performs purchasing assignments, inventory management, sterile processing, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) distribution and handling within hospital in accordance with ASNA, Ltd. policies and training.
Essential Job Functions
- Generates purchase requisitions for supplies, general office equipment, services and special purchases. Responsible for generating purchase requisitions and purchase orders for various categories of supplies, materials, equipment and services; plans and coordinates the activities of an inventory management system which include receiving, storing and distributing supplies to the multiple service units throughout the hospital
- Reviews purchase requisitions submitted by other departments and assists other departments in vendor selection and preparation of purchase requisitions.
- Processes purchase requisitions (PR) and purchase orders (PO) with a computerized procurement system
- Creates PO using the standardize PO process for creation, then forwards to vendors the signed PO with attached quote. Document PO conformation in a computerized procurement system
- Tracks the PO process assuring minimal delays; provide follow-up and communication as required
- Inventory Management responsibilities including: maintaining par levels, expiration date management and properly execute receiving inventory functions and storage of all central supply storerooms including but not limited to Tent, Offsite, DME and Central Supply.
- Fulfills usage reports from the ordering departments in a clean and orderly fashion. Confirms the package integrity and sterility of products with a visual inspection, by examine the packaging for any visible external damage or defects, such as tears, dents, or punctures, before distribution. Alert the departments of any discrepancies. Ensures that supplies are picked up.
- Follow the standard process for receiving supplies: match the delivery to a PO, visually inspect supplies for any damaged, confirm number of items, log received items into your inventory, put supplies in the proper location in a clean and orderly fashion.
- Coordinates with the Materials Management Manager to ensure that supplies are tagged for correct deliver location
- Follows and administers ASNA Acquisition/Procurement policies and procedures.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Two to four years of related experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
Desired Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Perform a volume of numerical detail work with speed and accuracy.
- Make mathematical computations with and without mechanical assistance.
- Prepare financial and other records in a systematic, neat, and legible manner.
- Knowledge of medical supplies strongly preferred.
- Detail & process oriented.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
- Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; solve practical problems.
Computer Skills
General Knowledge of Microsoft Office is needed, detailed knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Maximo is preferred.
Proficient in the following office skills: records information management, telephone etiquette, keyboarding/typing, customer assistance.
Certification/Licensure
Additional Qualifications for Grade 9. Meets all requirements of Central Technician in addition to the following:
- Manufacturer training on high level disinfection equipment & sterile processing equipment utilized by SSMH
- Completes and is successfully passes ASNA/SSMH competencies in Sterile Processing
