Areté Associates, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. Our office in Longmont, CO has an immediate opening for an IT Manager reporting to the Director of IT.  This is a exempt, supervisory, full-time position.

The Successful Candidate: 
Will have and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with SCI access, including a CI Polygraph. The candidate will report directly to the Director of IT and manage an onsite team. This position requires occasional travel and some afterhours support. The candidate will also support a variety of IT systems at varying levels of complexity on the classified and corporate networks.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and mentoring to other IT staff members as their direct supervisor. This includes performing task management, employee development, monitoring workloads, maintaining customer service standards and other management responsibilities.

  • Interface with executives, managers, and other leads to gather requirements, recommend solutions, provide statuses, and manage escalated issues/requests.

  • Manage the Longmont office’s IT environment from planning to project implementation in accordance with department standards and requirements.

  • Manage the company’s production technology systems and services

  • Oversee the IT infrastructure implementation and transition to a new facility in Niwot, CO.

  • Contribute to the IT department’s operation planning and design efforts, research and identify solutions to support business objectives in accordance with company standards.

  • Provide budgetary inputs to the Director of IT and contribute to the management of IT budgets and spending decisions.

  • Perform Microsoft Windows Server administration in an Active Directory environment.

  • Serve in a lead role as the primary system administrator for one more of the company’s IT services.

  • Manage the company’s production technology systems and services.

  • Maintain software licensing records and uphold Cyber Security policies and regulations.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology related discipline and/or current, applicable industry-standard certifications (MCSA, CCNA, Security , Linux )

  • Ability to obtain a Security CE or equivalent certification for DoD 8570 IAT Level II within 90 days of employment

  • Minimum of 3 years working as an IT Manager or in a leadership role AND a minimum of 7 years working as a Windows or Linux System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role

  • Extensive knowledge of Windows Server including Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, DFS, and DHCP

  • Mentoring abilities and/or leadership skills within an IT organization.

  • Proficient understanding of computer hardware configuration, software, and operating systems (primarily Windows 10, Server 2019)

  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work autonomously and on a team

  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to document/diagram IT systems and procedures

  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Active Top Secret security clearance

  • Administrative level knowledge of Linux is strongly desired

  • Proficient understanding of networking and infrastructure devices, protocols, and services, and virtual private networking configuration & management

  • Experience in at least one or more of the following technologies: Microsoft 365, Server Virtualization (Hyper-V) in a clustered environment with a SAN, Linux System Administration, and/or classified information system Cyber Security tools and technologies (Nessus/ACAS, WSUS, SCAP).

Salary: $110,000 - $125,000
