What will you be doing?
Argus is seeking a news reporter to cover the downstream oil sector. The ideal candidate is a resourceful, versatile and detail-oriented journalist who can cover all aspects of the North American oil refining and refined fuels industries, including supply and demand fundamentals, corporate and public policy issues, macro-economic factors and anything that impacts market fundamentals. This position also covers the US biofuels industry, including public policy related to ethanol, biodiesel and other renewable fuels. The job involves reporting for both a daily online newswire and weekly feature publications.
This position offers the opportunity to report in-depth features as well as breaking and corporate news for a sophisticated industry audience. This includes covering major developments in refining, fuel transportation and marketing, corporate earnings and regular government and industry data. The candidate must be a self-starter capable of handling a high-volume mix of breaking and enterprise stories, navigating regulatory filings and government databases, spotting trends and developing features. He or she will also work with reporters and editors from other teams around the globe to break news and write insightful analysis.
In this role you will write daily stories on developments in the North American oil refining and refined products operations, transportation and marketing industry. You will also write analysis and news stories for weekly publications, developing and maintaining rapport with key sources to become an expert on oil, refinery operations, industry regulation refined products transportation and marketing.
What we’re looking for in you:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, economics, business, or relevant field
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively toward goals, with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Ability to synthesize data to spot trends, and to communicate those findings to readers
- Experience in a professional publishing setting or in an analyst role
- A commitment to the highest level of accuracy and ability to write stories on deadline
- A willingness and ability to travel at times to fulfil the responsibilities of the position
