What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Substance Abuse Counselor position at Arision Recovery?
Purpose: The Substance Abuse Case Manager interfaces on an individual and group basis with clients setting. The Case Manager will also oversee patient case from admission to discharge.
Substance Abuse Case Manager duties include:
Demonstrating professionalism when interacting with clients and their families while maintaining boundaries, modeling good sobriety, observing client behaviors, ensuring client safety, and facilitating the clients' daily activities per the program schedule. The Substance Abuse Counselor is also responsible for the case management of the patient throughout their treatment and will be on-call when assistance is needed in the clinical department.
Reports to: Upper Management
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate one to two groups per day equivalent to 1.5 - 3 hours of group per workday and write all group notes.
- If not available to facilitate the group, they must find someone to conduct the groups for them.
- Conducts individual and family substance abuse counseling sessions to clients assigned to case load by program manager (provides referrals, if necessary, to relevant collaborative entities).
- Conducts assessments, outcome measures, progress notes (at least 1x/week per patient assigned), master treatment plans, and all relevant clinical documentation.
- Attends and participates in all staff meetings.
- Provides UA testing as directed for members of the same sex.
- Provides crisis intervention and completes the necessary documentation and notifies staff for policy and procedure compliance.
- Overall maintaining of facility cleanliness; looking for trash in common areas, bathroom, staff office, kitchen, group rooms, and therapy rooms.
- If necessary, drive clients to and from case management services and home.
- Works as part of a health care team to assess resident's needs, plan and modify care and implement interventions while maintaining ethical practices and maintaining perimeters designated by scope of practice.
- Maintain compliance with HIPPA regulations, American Disabilities Act and Joint Commission/DHCS policies and procedures.
- Follow policies and procedures in accordance with The State Laws and regulations, Joint Commission guidelines and insurance guidelines while providing accurate and timely documentation.
- Providing support and resources for clients while assisting with employment skills and development, legal assistance, government resources, community resources, etc.
- Preparing clients’ discharge by reviewing and amplifying discharge plans and case management assessments while providing resources or outside services for the success of the client’s graduation, aftercare, and the transition back to society.
- Admits new clients by reviewing records, conducting orientation and completing intake process.
- Any and all other tasks or duties that may be assigned by the upper management team and clinical team due to company necessity for the program needs/client care.
- Any changing of tasks and duties that might arise due to the change and criteria The State, The Joint Commission, company policies and procedures and/or the Insurance Companies might require.
Minimum Requirements:
- Having over one year in sobriety, in recovery.
- Understanding of the AA/NA, and 12 Steps Meetings
- Valid Driver’s License or Identification.
- Social Security Card
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification or agreement to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within first 14 days of employment.
- Current negative TB test results
- Health Screening Report
- Credentialed or registered as a certified substance abuse counselor or higher.
- Proof of COVID19 Vaccination or Declination
Experience and Skills:
- 1 years’ experience in the field of alcohol and/or other drug services.
- Computer competence (Microsoft Word, Excel).

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
