Job Overview: Arizona Environmental Specialist LLC is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Asbestos PLM (Polarized Light Microscopy) Laboratory Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting thorough analysis of asbestos-containing materials using PLM techniques. This role requires a strong background in asbestos identification, exceptional attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Sample Analysis:
- Conduct precise analysis of bulk materials using Polarized Light Microscopy to identify and quantify asbestos content. (PLM and Point Counts by PLM - EPA/600/R-93/116)
- Follow established procedures and protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Instrumentation and Equipment:
- Operate and maintain PLM and PCM equipment and related instruments.
- Troubleshoot and address any technical issues related to the analytical instrumentation.
- Perform routine calibration and quality control checks to ensure the accuracy of analytical results.
- Documentation:
- Record detailed and accurate data during sample analysis, including sample information, testing parameters, and results.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing findings and interpretations.
- Compliance:
- Adhere to all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations and guidelines.
- Ensure laboratory practices comply with accreditation and certification requirements.
- Quality Assurance:
- Participate in quality assurance programs and proficiency testing to uphold the highest standards of analytical performance.
- Perform intralaboratory quality control/assurance sampling data.
- Assist in maintaining the laboratory's accreditation and certifications.
- Clerical:
- Clerical work may involve login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports, as well as answering analytical related questions.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology) encouraged but not required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of two to three years of experience in asbestos analysis using PLM techniques.
- Familiarity with other asbestos analytical methods (e.g., TEM).
- Microbial identification and analysis are a plus but not required.
- McCrone or equivalent PLM bulk microscope training is a plus but not required.
- Certifications:
- Certification as an Asbestos Analyst by a recognized accreditation body.
- Additional certifications NIOSH 582 or equivalent.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in the use of PLM and PCM instrumentation and associated software.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
- Regulatory Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of asbestos regulations and guidelines.
- Experience with AIHA and NVLAP inspection procedures.
