Open Position: Director of Government Relations

This position reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Job Description:

We are seeking a talented Director of Government Relations to oversee Arizona Farm Bureau’s advocacy activities to maximize the organization’s influence over legislative and regulatory changes at the local, state, and national levels. This person will communicate the value of advocacy to grassroots members and leaders and facilitate opportunities for engagement in the political process and will employ, train, and supervise personnel to execute Farm Bureau policy and Farm Bureau political programs. This position will work regularly with the CEO, all Arizona Farm Bureau Departments, federal and state government offices, and agencies, allied groups and Farm Bureau leaders and members.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Work with the CEO to develop departmental strategies to elevate Farm Bureau’s reputation among policy makers at all levels of government
• Communicate progress toward policy goals and provide critical information to assist AZFB members in cultivating a strong Arizona agricultural industry
• Coordinate political and elections activities in the furtherance of AZFB Policy
• As National Affairs Coordinator, spearhead lobbying and other communication with Arizona’s Congressional delegation on issues relevant to the Arizona agricultural industry
• Coordinate programs and activities with other Farm Bureau divisions and staff

Minimum Qualifications:

° Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university

° At least 3-5 years of related government relations experience and an extensive network
with policymakers

° Ability to prioritize a dynamic workload and effectively meet deadlines

° Effective relationship-building and collaboration skills, particularly with volunteer
members of a non-profit organization

° Knowledge of federal politics and public policy related to agriculture

° Strong interpersonal and presentation skills successfully applied in advocacy

° Strong verbal and written communication skills

° The ability to travel in and out-of-state on a regular basis

° Experience supervising a team of employees
