Position Overview

  • The Philanthropy Officer will be responsible for engaging and inspiring AHS prospects and donors to support our mission and vision, while serving as an internal leader and championing AHS' future vision. This position will be responsible for securing gifts ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, identifying prospects for cultivation and current donors for the President's Club annual giving society and major gifts pipeline. The Philanthropy Officer will be expected to achieve and exceed annual goals as assigned.

Day in the Life of a Philanthropy Officer

  • Relationship Management and Solicitation
    • Actively identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of approximately 200individual prospects and current donors to achieve annual fundraising
    • Cultivate a robust understanding of AHS' services and initiatives to connect prospects and current donors with funding goals.
    • Develop and execute annual gift plans to generate new giving and increased, incremental giving from existing donors.
    • Create solicitation materials for individualized proposals for major gifts.
    • Attend and support donor and prospect cultivation events.
  • Stewardship
    • Create stewardship materials including thank you notes and program updates to enhance understanding of the AHS mission, services and initiatives to deepen the donor relationship with AHS.
    • Schedule progress reporting and manage budgets for restricted gifts, and engage donors with program leaders within AHS.
    • Make regular phone calls to thank for gifts, inform of program updates and event invitations.
    • Maintain all donor recognition, naming opportunities and restricted giving requirements based on individual donor wishes.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications / Licenses:

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree or CFRE certification a plus, AND a minimum of three years of experience on a non-profit development team; OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been acheived.
  • Proficiency in Raiser's Edge fundraising database software required as well as proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
  • Able to speak, read, write and understand English.
  • Valid AZ Driver's License and Insurance.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven track record of successfully identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding individual gifts at the five- and six-figure level.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining working relationships with internal/external stakeholders and partners; extensive knowledge of donor cultivation/solicitation principles and processes.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with multiple departmental associates.
  • Attention to details, excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize and take action in a fast-paced enviornment.
  • A commitment to flexibility and strong problem solving skills and a "can do attitude".
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple ongoing projects.
  • Impeccable written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. There may be occasional wet floors, animal noises, odors, and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air conditioned and heated office environment.
