  • Assist students who face complex issues and crises that could affect their ability to remain successful
  • Connect students with critical resources and networks; educate on relevant policies and procedures and administrative options; make appropriate referrals
  • Address students’ personal, housing, financial and/or academic needs due to a crisis (e.g. medical/family emergency, assault, trauma, hospitalization, suicide ideation, crime victim, etc.)
  • Respond to daily case management functions including but not limited to: student emergencies, student referrals and walk-in requests, and faculty/staff and administrative consults
  • Present relevant cases at Behavioral Intervention Team meetings
  • Manage caseload through electronic Symplicity Advocate system and communication (written and verbal) with campus partners regarding people of concern
  • Serve as a resource for students requiring assistance navigating various university processes including but not limited to the following areas: general petition, grade appeals, retroactive withdrawal, and incompletes
  • Provide general guidance on university policies pertaining to students; explain relevant policies and procedures and discuss possible options
  • Make appropriate referrals and assist student with various administrative options available on campus
  • Make appropriate referrals to support networks and/or resources in the Tucson community (victim witness, Southern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault, etc.)
  • Initiate wellness checks on students when appropriate and determine follow-up needed
  • Assist in administering the student death process
  • Communicate with parents, families, or designated emergency contacts as appropriate
  • Assist with long-term needs of students including follow-up to see if student has been successful in addressing any issues or questions related to the student crisis
  • Assist in the development and implementation of multi-media presentations, and educational programs for faculty, staff and student outreach, regarding Dean of Students resources, health and safety protocol, and how to refer a student in need
  • Prepare reports and proposals, including progress reports and annual reports as required by the Dean of Students Office
  • Conduct research and benchmarking activities to assist in the pro-active assessment of the initiatives supporting students in crisis
  • Represent the Dean of Students Office on university committees and at campus functions
  • Facilitate trainings for DOS staff around conflict mediation, students of concern, UA procedures related to student success
  • Assist in developing strategic goals for Student Assistance in conjunction with staff and students relevant to student needs
  • Manage programming and outreach to engage students in self-care and increase awareness of Student Assistance
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with related campus departments, including Counseling and Psych Services, University of Arizona Police Department, Fraternity and Sorority Programs, Disability Resource Center, and Residence Life
  • Other duties as assigned
