Description

The Pharmacist is responsible for dispensing medications according to physician or authorized medical practitioner's prescription or written orders. Evaluates drugs prescribed for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergy, drug interaction, and contraindications and advises patient concerning use of prescription.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Dispense prescription drugs prescribed by physicians or other healthcare providers.
  2. Review prescriptions for accuracy and legality.
  3. Counsel patients on the use of drugs and on their use at home.
  4. Provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.
  5. Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes, such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
  6. Prepares and quality-checks sterile medications under special conditions (intravenous medications, anti-cancer medications, etc.)
  7. Ensures the accuracy of prescriptions filled and making sure drugs don’t interact in a harmful way.
  8. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
  9. Inputs and reviews patients’ data into provided computer system to maintain pharmacy files, charge system and inventory.
  10. Supervises and check the work of Pharmacy Technicians and other less experienced staff.
  11. Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Pharmacy. Current and valid state Pharmacist license; and Board Certification, as appropriate. Minimum of two (2) years post graduate experience in Pharmacy; one (1) year clinical experience preferred. Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification upon hire.
