ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN

Position Information

Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) Child & Family Services Division (CFSD) is hiring an Accounting Technician to assist with annual expenditures from various funding sources including: the Children Services Act (CSA), Title IV-E Foster Care and Adoptions, Juvenile Court, and Special Education.

Specific duties include:

• Creating, processing, and tracking purchase orders and ensuring accuracy of requests for allowable services;
• Reviewing invoices for validity and ensuring the appropriateness of requested payments for invoices monthly;
• Reconciling expenditures and troubleshooting system for data entry errors;
• Interacting with vendors to research and resolve invoice or payment issues;
• Serving as liaison between social workers/case managers and vendors to resolve disputes;
• Preparing spreadsheets;
• Preparing monthly analysis of trends
• Serving as a liaison between CFSD and Arlington County Schools fiscal personnel;
• Entering of monthly financial data to ensure accurate grant reporting; and
• Closing out accounts at the end of every fiscal year.

The successful candidate is expected to possess highly developed communication skills as well as the ability to understand multiple and diverse funding streams.

Selection Criteria

Minimum:

Education: Completion of the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or vocational school, a GED certificate, or the equivalent.

Experience: Some experience supporting account management, account maintenance or budget related work.

Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for some experience.

Desirable: Preference may be given to applicants who possess experience in one or more of the following:

• Resolving billing or service discrepancies with vendors or representatives of other organizations;
• Working in a human services environment;
• Using word processing, spreadsheet, database management and/or financial management software;
• Data entry; and/or
• Processing applications and assessing or calculating related fees.

Special Requirements

Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. A pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check will also be completed before hire.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some telework is possible, contingent upon supervisor approval and workload.
