Summary:
Under the direction of the Sports Director, the Head Track Coach is responsible for organizing the Track program at the assigned YMCA. Position conducts practices, motivates participants, and instructs athletes in game strategies and techniques. He or she will provide the community with sound programs in accordance with the YMCA goals and objectives. The Head Track Coach must have the willingness to project the YMCA representation by personal adherence to all policies and must exemplify the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA values of Faith, Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Must adhere to Risk Management and safety practices; be courteous and respectful to all staff and participants.
Essential Duties
Instructs participants in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
Assesses participant's skills, monitors participants during competition and practice, and keeps the Sports Director informed of progress.
Determines meet strategy.
Supervises athletes during practices and competition.
Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards participants, officials, and spectators.
Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition.
Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to participants.
Submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
Participates in special activities of the program as needed.
Distributes and maintains eligibility forms and other related records.
Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Sports Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Qualifications
Experience as an Track Coach at the high school or college level preferred
Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills
Must possess excellent knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of track
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants, parents, and co-workers
Ability to work a flexible schedule
Must pass Criminal Background Check and MVR- Motor Vehicle (must have insurable driver's record)
Must be able to work effectively with a diversity of people, different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and all ages.
Must have and maintain current CPR Pro/AED, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention, Bloodborne Pathogens training and other trainings required.
