POSITION TITLE: Elementary School Assistant Principal

FLSA: Exempt Administrative

Reports To: Elementary School Principal

Term Length: 210 Days

Compensation: Starting at $65,000

The Role: Taking on the assistant principal position for a school year is a significant step toward becoming the next campus leader. You will be engaged in on-the-job training to become the next principal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree or higher, with a major concentration of work in educational administration
- At least three years of exemplary teaching experience
- At least two years of exemplary instructional leadership and/or Grade Level Chair experience
- Experience in administration and/or supervision
- A valid Texas teaching certificate and a valid Texas administrator certificate
- Experience in elementary schools
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and development
- Ability to work outside of normal hours
- Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
- Demonstrated ability to work with a team
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and initiatives
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress

JOB GOAL:
- Assists the Principal to provide instructional leadership to staff
- Assists in the day to day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities.
- Supports the Principal in setting the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the staff within the school.
- Build positive, professional relationships that support a positive school culture

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing the progress toward increased student achievement and student growth for teachers, including helping teachers use assessment data to improve the quality and scope of their instruction;
- Managing and coaching the campus Interventionists and other leaders responsible for providing one-on-one, small group, and whole class instruction to students identified as needing more intensive and tiered instructional support to achieve academic success;
- Ensuring that scholars receive outstanding instruction in all classrooms by observing and evaluating teachers, including conducting classroom observations, coaching teachers, and monitoring teacher progress;
- Plan and implement the steps necessary, including RTI and case management, to establish, launch, and maintain a strong academic mindset and achieve results for all students on campus both academically and behaviorally;
- Assisting in the planning and delivery of professional learning opportunities to campus teachers and staff during beginning-of-year in-service days, as well as select professional development days throughout the school year;
- Leading campus testing responsibilities to ensure they are executed with accuracy and fidelity;
- Providing leadership, coaching, professional learning, and serving as a resource to teachers, interventionists, and teacher aides on positive school culture, student discipline, team management, social/emotional health, compliance, parent/community relations, and student achievement;
- Overseeing the development, implementation and execution of intervention support systems and programs on campus that focus on addressing and reducing at-risk barriers to scholars social, academic and emotional development to maximize student achievement and persistence;
- Developing, implementing, managing and executing effective school behavior systems ensuring incorporation of parent communication in each process;
- Working with relevant stakeholders to develop and implement school-wide programs that increase scholars’ persistence and support social, emotional learning;
- Establishing, building and maintaining a positive school culture among scholars, staff and parents that promotes the campus core values and aligned to Capturing Kids’ Hearts processes;
- Leading family engagement programming and recognizes families as partners in their scholars’ education;
- addressing complaints and resolving problems with and amongst stakeholders
- Additional duties as assigned.

As directed by the Principal, the Assistant Principal:
- Manages the physical plant in terms of safety and welfare of students and staff.
- Resolves staff problems and provide support to teachers
- Maintains the discipline and morale of students by carrying out the provisions of the Student Code of Conduct in a consistent and fair manner
- Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Demonstrates awareness of all district requirement and Board of Education policies. Ability to use a personal computer and related software.

Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security. TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. Texas Workers Compensation covers workers in this position. This is an at-will position and compensation is annualized and paid monthly for 12 months.

Federal employees shall not engage in text messaging (a) when driving GOV, or when driving POV while on official Government business, or (b) when using electronic equipment supplied by the Government while driving.
