Qualifications:
- Education: graduate from a high school, plus forty-eight or more undergraduate college hours
- Knowledge of word processing software
- Experience in basic clerical functions, filing, and telephone etiquette
Certification:
- Hold or be willing to secure a current valid Texas Teaching Aide Certificate, if assigned to Title I students
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to follow guidance of the teacher and administrators
- Attention to detail in competing financial records
Physical abilities
- Ability to stand for at least thirty minutes
- Type and use a computer for email and word processing
- Able to sit for extended time
- Demonstrate appropriate etiquette dealing with children and adults
Purpose:
Instructional Aide I must work independently under the guidance of staff. Aide I communicates directions to others, provides instructional services to assigned students, supervises students between classes, at playground, assists in re-teaching and reinforcement as assigned; may be asked to maintain records in classroom, work hour or other records for the administrative offices, enter order requests and other clerical functions and assist all other actions assigned by the school leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Comply with the employee handbook and the duties assigned, including general clerical and record keeping
- Maintain accurate PEIMS, attendance and other records
- Assist teachers in the learning process with students
- Supervise students and provide a safe environment
- Report any concerns to the Principal/Superintendent
- Treat all parents, students and staff in a considerate and respectful manner
Instructional delivery:
- Assist teachers as directed to provide lesson activities that actively engage students in learning and maintain discipline
- Assist teachers as directed to deliver all electronic, paper products, books, films or other media for appropriateness for use with students
- Participate in staff development activities as assigned
- Assist teachers as directed to supervise students at the school and off site
Management in one or more of the following areas:
- Manage collections of data from staff about student attendance and academic performance
- Manage operations of a campus office
- Take directions for managing workflow of records assigned
Working environment:
- Maintain emotional control under the stress of instructional operations
- Maintain confidentiality of all information and records
- Be flexible in assisting others as requested
- Participate in professional conferences.
Retirement is through the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and not Social Security. TRS requires five years of participation before any retirement funds are vested. Texas Workers Compensation covers workers in this position. Some Instructional Aides are partially or fully funded with Title I funds. Staff should ask their campus Director if they are paid from Title I funds. Such are Federal monies and are subject to reduction and elimination at any time.
