Job Purpose:

The Art Director is responsible for creating and executing the overall design and aesthetic for external facing programs with a priority given to all SEARCH and related programming (hereafter “program”). They will coordinate the creative aspects of an assignment including use of words, images, layout, and typography in print, digital space, and the web.

Essential Functions:

We are looking for someone with self-motivation, conceptual approach, a passion for type and design, detail-orientation, the ability to visually convey ideas, an appreciation for brand consistency, and the artistic and writing skills necessary to create, execute, and promote impactful ideas for our prospective and current students, and graduates, with a robust understanding of the academic initiatives critical in promoting a Christian, liberal arts university. An important part of the position is supporting the ministry and mission of the University and advancing the academic excellence and spiritual vitality of our University and students. Each employee plays an important role in the development of the Christian faith in our students.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate messaging between project directors, researchers and creatives, project consultants, and campus audiences.
  • Manage all critical aspects of program communications and digital space management, and overall presence.
  • Build and package post- program event and program collateral and media for admissions, future collaborations, prospect research, and donor relations.
  • Support program marketing initiatives by drawing on and organizing assets such as photography, film, and other artifacts for their dissemination to appropriate audiences.
  • Bring vision to life through style guides, design iterations, and final deliverables.
  • Present concepts and help facilitate ideation sessions with internal teams.
  • Write, edit, review, and maintain program website copy and visual evidence.
  • Develop and leverage style guides to craft look and feel for events and editorial content.
  • Deliver critical design and aesthetic opinion to the program spaces and events.
  • Work with established vendors to give direction and feedback on outputs they are creating.
  • Provide strategic direction of the marketing, communications, and public affairs activity.
  • Put communication vehicles in place (including social media) to create momentum and awareness, as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities.
  • Accept other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Strong personal commitment to, and alignment with, the spiritual and moral values, community lifestyle standards and faith mission of the university.
  • Strong commitment to the unique contribution of a Christian Liberal Arts education to the needs of the culture and world.
  • Quality work achieved within the context of time constraints and deadlines.
  • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and accurately within all required aspects of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Office 365, WordPress, as well as presentation software such as Keynote and PowerPoint.
  • Ongoing drive to understand emerging techniques, trends, and philosophies in design, technology, interaction, and social media.
  • Work well across various teams.
  • Art education in advertising design and conceptual thinking is preferred.

Physical requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to fine-motor, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time on-site position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendance at evening SEARCH showcase events is required.
