Ascend is seeking a responsible and dedicated candidate to join our team of Vigil Aides to serve the greater Kansas City area. The perfect candidate will be someone who can provide a calm presence and has the ability to listen to and support family members as their loved one is at the end of life. Our Vigil Aides come along-side patients and families to offer presence, reassurance, and peace while helping to provide physical cares including personal hygiene, grooming, and repositioning. This Vigil Aide/Certified Home Health Aide will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Primary responsibility is to provide support to patients, families, and facilities by providing end of life vigil presence at bedside in either a home or nursing home setting
- Provides compassionate bedside presence for patients who are deemed to be vigil appropriate/end of life by RN
- Supports families through listening, educating, and by providing hospice presence as patient is actively dying
- Collaborates with facility to ensure patient comfort, care, and support
- Provides presence after death to support family and facility prior to funeral home arrival
- At times, Vigil Aides may provide caregiver relief for families who need to step away from bedside
- At times, Vigil Aides may be asked to help with showers or other patient care needs as directed
- Provides or assists in ADL activities; personal hygiene, grooming, mouth, skin care and nails.
- Provides assistance in toileting; positioning and transfer activities, frequent turning and positioning of a bed bound resident/patient.
- Assists with the prescribed exercise and ROM activities which the resident/patient and Hospice aide have been taught by the Hospice Nurse.
- Assists with light housekeeping of individual's personal unit or room, including changing of bed linen, if needed and patient laundry.
- Feeds and assists with meals.
- Obtains temperature, pulse and respirations as supervised by the Hospice Nurse.
- Reports any changes in resident's/patient's condition to the Hospice Nurse and, if in a facility, to the facility nurse and documents the information on the Home Health Aide Certification of House form, including the date and time of the report and the person receiving the information.
- Assists or reminds the patient to take medication, in compliance with regulations of appropriate regulatory and accrediting bodies.
High School Diploma or equivalent
Professional Experience:
- Must have a State Certified CHHA/CNA license
- Experience in hospice or home health, preferred
- No experience necessary but 1 year, preferred
- Must be willing to travel
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
