We have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to be a part of our Environmental, Safety, Security and Health (ESSH) team at our Pensacola Plant located in Cantonment, FL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the site to drive to achieve best-in-class occupational safety and health performance. POSITION OVERVIEW The Senior Industrial Hygienist is responsible for comprehensive Industrial Hygiene activities with an understanding of air monitoring methods, sample handling, data analysis, ventilation, radiation, ergonomics, hazard communication, use of air monitoring equipment and report writing. The position develops implements and monitors programs for all industrial hygiene standards, systems and work processes, and creates value by facilitating risk assessments and working with facility employees to develop solutions to mitigate or eliminate risks that meet or exceed regulatory, company and industry standards. TARGETED OUTCOMES Develop and manage annual Industrial Hygiene (IH) plans for the site Perform IH activities including, but not limited to, identification, assessment and control of potential chemical, physical and biological stressors in the workplace Manage exposure assessment data, including qualitative and quantitative exposure assessment documentation Ensure that occupational health practices and regulatory requirements are recognized, reviewed and implemented Participate in emerging issues identification, analysis and resolution Participate as a core member of the site ESSH team in any other capacity necessary to maintain and improve ESSH programs, policies, systems and initiatives for the site or company KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Own, administer, and maintain all applicable IH policies and procedures to ensure successful implementation of regulatory, company and industry standards Administer the Exposure Assessment process, including qualitative/quantitative IH assessments, short and long-term IH initiatives in alignment with company directives and selection of proper control solutions to reduce occupational health risks Serve as the focal point for the management of the applicable IH programs to drive integration and improvements across the facility down to the unit and department level Conduct compliance audits and program assessments and develop action plans to close identified gaps Provide expertise and assistance to work groups in developing and implementing compliance systems, programs, policies and procedures to ensure occupational exposures are adequately controlled and/or eliminated Review current and proposed projects to ensure IH concerns are identified and steps defined and addressed Facilitate the approval and onboarding of new chemicals to the site with support of product stewardship Complete required regulatory and corporate reports (e.g., SARA 312, CWC, TSCA) Provide exposure monitoring support during emergencies, such as releases, fires, or spills Function as Radiation Safety Officer with required state licensing Work with onsite medical staff to maintain medical surveillance programs based on SEG requirements Secure legal advice under necessary circumstances and act on legal advice as appropriate Perform field inspections to provide advice and oversight of safe work practices Act as a liaison between the facility and outside regulatory agencies REPORTS TO Safety/Health Manager REQUIRED EXPERIENCE Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Public Health or a closely-related science/engineering field Minimum of 7 years of experience in organic chemical industry, oil refining, industrial manufacturing and/or heavy construction environment Demonstrated commitment to safety and health practices and standards General safety program management with strong knowledge and understanding of OSHA and other industry related safety regulations required Certification, training and/or working knowledge of the following: OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER, radiation safety Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) DESIRED CERTIFICATION Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) REQUIRED SKILLS Basic knowledge of occupational stressors to include (heat stress, chemicals, radiation, ergonomics, noise, biological hazards, etc.) Chemical sampling knowledge and techniques Familiarity with Industrial Hygiene instrumentation and monitoring equipment Proactive leadership and team-building skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization, including contractors Knowledge of OSHA occupational health regulations, ANSI standards, NIOSH standards, ACGIH standards, etc. Working knowledge of incident investigation and analysis tools (Cause Mapping, 5-Why’s, FMEA, etc.) Solid interpersonal, influential, coaching, facilitation and organizational skills with excellent verbal and written communication capabilities Ability and willingness to effectively lead change, influence others and gain commitment to new ways of performing work with all levels in the organization Must be self-motivated, well organized, and able to manage multiple initiatives to successful completion Strong computer skills are required, including sound proficiency with MS Office products PREFERRED SKILLS Proficiency with SAP Experience with Cority Experience with Sphera or other SDS management system Experience in developing and delivering training Skills Summary: About Us: Ascend Performance Materials is the premium provider of high quality chemicals, fibers and plastics.
