Ascendient’s Regulatory Practice is the firm’s largest service line. We enjoy a national reputation for producing flawless, timely Certificate of Need (CON) applications and defending them in court when necessary. We also support nonprofit hospitals with developing Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) that align services with community needs and differentiate clients from their competitors. Many clients have relied on us for decades, and new clients are constantly being added.


Ascendient is currently recruiting a Financial Analyst with expertise in financial modeling and accounting. The Senior Financial Analyst will work within a team to deliver services for Ascendient’s clients planning expansions, new services, new facilities, and other projects, playing an active role in developing utilization and forecasting models that comply with regulatory requirements. This position will be responsible for the development of financial models and pro forma financial statements for client Certificate of Need applications.


Important Note: For the first three months of employment, the Financial Analyst will be required to work from Ascendient's Chapel Hill, NC office at least three days per week. Following this introductory/training period, the Writer position can be remote, with 10% travel to client sites and Ascendient's Chapel Hill office expected.

  • Analyzing, evaluating, and projecting financial statements
  • Developing detailed utilization projections for healthcare facilities and services that account for both the historical performance of the client and industry experience and comply with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Conducting geographic and demographic analyses
  • Calculating the impact of project financing options
  • Assisting with prioritization of client strategic initiatives by quantifying the long-term financial impact of various strategic alternatives
  • Translating information from industry and market research into relevant observations and recommendations for Ascendient’s clients
  • Evaluating, understanding, and recommending courses of action based on expertise across a multitude of data sources and financial analysis techniques
  • Analyzing, interpreting, and presenting clients’ internal and detailed market data
  • Creating clear visual representations of data findings utilizing Excel graphics, Tableau, PowerPoint, mapping software, and other tools
  • Effectively managing time to ensure deliverables meet fixed regulatory deadlines
  • Clearly and concisely communicating modeling results orally and in presentation format
  • Continually monitoring service and payor-specific reimbursement changes in order to refine financial models and pro forma statements accordingly
  • Staying abreast of emerging industry trends, legislation, and changes in the regulatory environment that will impact our approach to developing successful CON applications

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business/Healthcare Administration or Accounting, or commensurate experience in business/healthcare/accounting required
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration with a finance concentration or heavy finance component, or CPA preferred
  • Relevant experience in financial analysis in a healthcare setting or consulting role a plus
  • Exceptional working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated experience with projects that require both attention to detail and an understanding of the “bigger picture”
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


The Financial Analyst is a full-time position with a Base Salary range between $71,000 - $93,000 per year, and opportunities to earn Incentive Compensation. Additionally, Ascendient offers a comprehensive benefits package and generous leave policies.
