What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gastroenterology Technician position at Ascension?
GI Tech - Surgery Center
Full time - 40 hours per week.
Monday - Friday Day shift 0630 - 1500.
This position is a part of the GI On Call team.
On call will be 1 weeknight per week and every 5th weekend. 1 holiday per year.
What You Will Do
Perform patient care related to the digestive system.
- Provide instructions as indicated for each specific Gastroenterology (GI) procedure.
- Confer with nursing staff when needed.
- Document patient assessment and health history from patient/family.
- Recognize and respond to emergency situations in patient care.
- Make post procedure calls on Gastroenterology (GI) patients. Report concerns to nursing staff/physician as indicated.
What You Will Need
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
- One or more of the following required:
- Basic Emergency Medical Tech specializing in Basic credentialed from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. All credential levels accepted.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Medical Technologists (AMT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
- Medical Assistant credentialed from the National Healthcare Association obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Registered Medical Assistant credentialed from the American Registry of Medical Assistants also accepted.
- Nurse Aide credentialed from the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. CNA certification on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry with eligibility to work within a hospital setting.
- Surgical Tech credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
Education:
- High school diploma/GED with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree required.
