Ascension Medical Group-Cardiothoracic Surgery Associates is looking for a Certified Cardiothoracic Physician Assistant to join a highly renowned surgical team.
This is a great opportunity for a detail oriented, self-motivated and talented individual to provide medical and surgical care to patients using a patient centered team approach.
The large cardiothoracic surgery practice provides inpatient coverage at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield, Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc and Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw.
Position Highlights:
- The new PA would be part of a cardiothoracic team consisting of a cardiothoracic surgeon and 2-3 physician assistants

Responsibilities:
- Position entails inpatient rounding and consults, pre/post op outpatient visits and 1st Assist in the OR
- Call schedule at least 1 day per week and at least 1 weekend per month
- Obtains patient history and performs assessment. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic procedures.
- Provides and documents direct treatment and management of health conditions.
- Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options and community resources.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
- BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
- Physician Assistant credentialed from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
- Physician Assistant with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board Physician Assistants Task Force obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Verified by local Credentialing Office.
- Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
Education:
- Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program required.
- Master's degree preferred.
Work Experience:
- 1 year of experience preferred.
Additional Preferences
Qualifications:
- Certified as a Physician Assistant.
- Recent and relevant 1-2 years experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery is required; inpatient rounding, outpatient visits and 1st Assist in the OR.
- Demonstrates a willingness and ability to work as a high-functioning, integrated health care team.
