JOB TITLE: Junior Varsity Cheerleading Coach

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
The cheerleading coach works with the Athletic Director of Asheville High School to provide a quality
program for athletes in a competitive cheer program. The coach supervises the students, volunteers and
helps the head coach in all capacities. The cheerleading coach ensures that students are provided a safe
environment during practices and meets. Also, helps to monitor the academic progress of the athletes in
the program as well as instilling in the athletes the tenets of good sportsmanship both in competitions and
throughout the school day.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
? Plan and supervise practice sessions
? Complete and maintain proper paperwork as required by NCHSAA and local policies
? Care for and maintain all equipment and uniforms
? Be present for all games(afternoons, evenings and some weekends)
? Meet long term goals of the cheerleading program
? Communicate with parents, students, and administration
? Has current knowledge of basic first aid
? Supervises volunteer coaches in the program
? Monitors academic progress of students
? Monitors behavior of the athletes
? Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director and Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk and drive a car. Must be able to lift
equipment up to 20 pounds. Physical demand requirements are for Light Work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional,
structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data,
people or things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or
exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or
assistants.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read and write complex text and data and communicate in
English.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables
in or from standardized situations.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow
oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add, subtract, divide and
multiply, and to understand and interpret complex statistical analysis.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, with and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using
computers and other technology.
Manual Dexterity: Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination: Requires the ability to differentiate between colors or shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving
instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under average levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear.
