Instructional Paraprofessionals and Monitor Teacher Assistants Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determined by the building principal
- Covering classes (common planning time, CORE evaluations)
- Assisting teachers in classes with large numbers
- Special Education responsibilities involve the implementation of goals of assigned special education students' IEP's.
- Working with small groups of students on math and reading instruction
- Substitute coverage
- Working with students on computers
- Emphasis on instruction and teaching responsibilities
- Other duties as directed by Principal
Special Education Paraprofessionals and Monitor Teacher Assistants may be assigned to work in a variety of classroom settings such as Inclusion, ACESS/ASD, Emotionally Impaired, Lifeskills, Multi-handicapped or Resource Rooms.
Special Education Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this position may include but are not limited to the following:
•Work in special education settings reviewing and reinforcing previously introduced lessons and implementing prescribed instruction.
•Assist teachers with implementation of students’ individual education plans.
•Under the teachers’ direction, teach individual or small group lessons using teacher prepared materials.
•Administer or help administer various classroom and district assessments.
•Assist the teacher(s) in preparing and distributing instructional materials.
•Assist the teacher with record keeping and data collection.
•Provide substitute coverage in classrooms and school office as needed per contract.
•Serve as transportation/bus monitors when necessary which may include meeting the van or bus at a designated area and riding the van or bus to and from the school with the students.
•Escort students safely around the building either individually or in groups and assist students as necessary. Some lifting where appropriate may be necessary. Additionally, some students may require diapering, toileting assistance and feeding assistance.
•Monitor field trips, cafeteria, hallways and playground as needed.
•Attend meetings and professional development activities and training as directed by Principal.
•Occasionally there is a need to physically restrain some students. Restraint training will be provided where there is a need.
•Maintain confidentiality.
•Perform all related duties as assigned by Principal or Administrator.
