Archaeologists – All Levels - Northern California
ASM Affiliates (ASM) has immediate openings for Senior, Associate, and Assistant Archaeologists in Northern California and surrounding regions and will be based out of our Sacramento office. ASM is a consulting firm specializing in archaeology, history, architectural history, and cultural resource management (CRM) with offices throughout the western U.S. and Hawaii. The successful candidate will be an integral member of our dedicated team of professionals and work in a collegial and positive environment.
Assistant Archaeologists – The Assistant Archaeologist conducts survey, evaluation, and data recovery field projects. Prepares field notes and site forms. Assists in the preparation of reports and laboratory analysis. Most of the work will entail daily commuting to and from job sites throughout Northern CA, Nevada, or Oregon. Hiring will occur on an as-needed basis per individual project until fully staffed. Requirements include Bachelor’s degree or higher in Archaeology/Anthropology (or AA degree/certificate with 10 years’ experience); at least 1 years of field work experience or equivalent, excellent writing and communication skills and be willing to work in and adapt to a variety of environments and challenging field conditions.
Associate Archaeologists - The Associate Archaeologist will perform research, fieldwork, laboratory analysis, monitoring, and preparation of technical reports for survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring projects under the direction of senior staff. Position requires a command of federal (NEPA, NHPA Section 106) and state cultural resource laws and regulations, time management, technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Previous experience in California, Nevada or Oregon preferred. Requirements include an M.A. or Ph.D. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in CRM. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have experience with project management, strong technical writing skills, excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to positively interact with clients, supervising personnel, task management, proposal preparation, and assisting with business development.
Senior Archaeologist - The Senior Archaeologist will manage and lead research, fieldwork, laboratory analysis, monitoring, and the preparation of technical reports for survey, testing, evaluation, data recovery, and construction monitoring projects. This position requires a command of federal (NEPA, NHPA Section 106) and state cultural resources laws and regulations, excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as time management and technical skills. The Senior Archaeologist is expected to focus primarily on pre-field, fieldwork, and report writing task but will also significantly contribute to business development, marketing, and proposal efforts for cultural resource opportunities. Requirements include a M.A. or Ph.D. degree in anthropology, archaeology, historical archaeology, or related field; a minimum of 5 years of supervisory or management experience in CRM, and previous experience in CA, NV or OR; and the candidate must be able to be permitted by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management at the Crew Chief level or higher for both prehistoric and historic resources throughout most of northern and central Nevada and portions of northeastern California. Prior Project Manager experience, including budgets and personnel is preferred. Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA) certification also required. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have experience with business development and staff mentorship, strong technical writing skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, and an ability to positively interact with clients.
