Job Description SMG, the leader in privately managed public assembly facilities has an excellent and immediate opening for an Assistant Catering Manager at the Van Andel Arena, Grand Rapids, MI. The Assistant Catering Manager, is responsible for soliciting local Food & Beverage events, servicing the Food & Beverage needs of any convention, trade or consumer show clients. In addition to supervising the Intermission restaurant located inside of the arena. This position is also responsible for assisting the Catering manager training all Catering and Restaurant staff. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Catering Manager to solicit social events (Food & Beverage) in the restaurant or catering setting in the arena or locally. Report on a daily basis to the Catering manager information on potential sales leads and existing client relations. Work with both the Arena and Hockey team to provide services for potential clients on both event and non-event days. Train both Catering and Restaurant staff with Catering Manager. Analyze monthly operational statements with Catering Manager and determine reasons for variances to budget and understand all financial reports for department. Preform other duties as needed. QUALIFICATIONS: At least (1) year of practical sales experience in hotel, restaurant or arena settings. Strong orientation to customer service and ability to work with other staff members in the facility. • Knowledge of sales and marketing principles necessary to promote the Intermission restaurant and banquet rooms. Excellent organizational, planning, communication and inter-personal skills. Some travel to other properties may occur from time to time. Computer knowledge of Microsoft office and Caterease (Not required) This position is required to move around the facility: to stand for long hours during events. This position may require work inside and outside of the building, as needed by events. Hours may vary and include weekends and some holidays. Applicant must be able to life a minimum of 40lbs.
