Position Summary:
Under general direction of the General Manager, the Full Time Production Manager serves as the senior operations crew member of the facility and supervises full-time and part-time personnel in the delivery of services to users, clients, and visitors. Duties include the development of accurate labor cost projections with budget adherence, establishment of maintenance guidelines for theatrical systems and management of client-friendly staff. This position plans and coordinates the work in a multi-venue performing arts center. The Production Manager administers union labor contracts regarding daily usage and long-term effect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinates and supervises in-house crew, stagehands, and other technicians (including those not in the direct employ of the facility) engaged in producing a stage or non-stage production from concept to production. This includes determining priorities of event coordination, hanging of soft goods, electrics, sound, supplemental rental equipment and building modifications.
- Coordinate all backstage logistics for shows with local stage employees and local sound, lights and A/V vendors.
- Oversees all performance related systems.
- Oversees and maintains architectural lighting systems.
- Implements and updates facility technical rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Coordinates the Operations activities with other department and event related contractors to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events, including ADA compliance.
- Supervise setup and changeover of all venues, as needed.
- Advances preparation with production personnel regarding technical rider requirements and coordinates all production staffing needs for resident companies including labor calls.
- Hires, trains, and prepares work schedule and approves payroll for local production staff.
- Prepares schedule for Dominion Energy Center Security Office to ensure facility is open and staffed for normal business hours as well as all events, meetings, and Genworth Bright Lights classroom rentals.
- Prepares and disseminates schedules for Police, Fire, EMT, and RMC Event personnel required for all events.
- Coordinates the budgeting, purchasing, and scheduling of stage equipment repair and maintenance.
- Coordinates and oversees facility internet infrastructure.
- Files reports (including payroll and invoices) to Management regarding stage personnel and budget modifications.
- Supervise a preventative maintenance program for all light, sound and backstage equipment
- Recommend capital purchases or improvements to General Manager.
- Provide for the training, safe working conditions and welfare of stage employees in accordance with ASM policies, union guidelines and applicable EEO and OSHA regulations.
- Assists and helps coordinate various front-of-house events as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in technical procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology and technical support requirements for events anticipated at the facility.
- Must possess thorough understanding of facility's theatrical system.
- Be familiar with the principles and techniques of supervision, training, budget preparation and purchasing.
- Meet the physical demands of the job which include being able to get in and around the facility (requires personal mobility), lifting, carrying, moving, climbing, working from various heights and moderate to loud noises.
- Operate a personal computer using the Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other related computer-based programs relevant to the position.
- Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
- Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
- Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
- Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
Education and work experience
- 4-year degree in Theater with technical emphasis or professional equivalence
- 3-year minimum experience working in a performing arts center/theater
- Knowledge of operations, maintenance, and stage management
- Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, state and other work environment and safety regulations
- Working knowledge of fire and public safety issues
- Prior supervisory experience required
- CAD experience a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
ESTA Certification a plus

Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member
Requires ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
