Job Description
The Metrology Engineering Manager will lead development and sustaining of metrology processes within the Optical Fab in the Wilton Factory. The candidate and their team will be responsible for defining, implementing, monitoring, and continuous improvement of various metrology systems used in the manufacturing process of high value optical components. They will also establish and track metrics for the metrology processes and manage deliverables of their team. They will provide technical guidance, and foster team and individual development. Important qualities and skills for success in this role include leadership and coaching. The candidate will interact with various production and design engineering teams, as well as senior management at the Wilton, CT site.

Education
B.S. or M.S. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • High degree of theoretical understanding and hands-on operation experience of metrology systems including interferometers, CMMs, spectrophotometers, ellipsometers, profilometers, mechanical gauges.
  • Strong knowledge of calibrations, GR&R, SPC, and Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of optical fabrication processes and optical product specifications.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify issues, and drive discussion/action with various stakeholders.
  • Must be comfortable with a rapidly changing work environment.
  • Ability to interact and influence at various organizational levels to achieve short and long-term goals.
  • Strong sense of ownership, personal accountability, and urgency/customer focus.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MatLab, JMP.
  • Familiar with material characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, XPS, AFM, WLI.
  • Experience conducting failure analysis.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Prior experience managing a team.

Responsibilities:

  • Routinely required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch. Occasionally required to move around the campus.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • May require travel dependent on business needs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Role within the Factory
Responsibilities:

  • Must be willing to work in a clean room environment, wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses and gloves for entire duration of shift.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit; walk; talk; hear; use hands to keyboard, finger, handle, and feel; stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, reach, and stretch.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Can work under deadlines.
  • The environment generally is moderate in temperature with moderate to high noise level.
  • Must be willing to work a compressed work week schedule – twelve-hour long shift and rotating from three to four days a week.
  • This must include references to day and night shifts for accommodation purposes.

  • Working around lasers; working with ladders; working on platforms; and working around chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally required to move around the campus.

  • May require travel dependent on company needs.
  • The environment generally is moderate in temperature and noise level

May need to work in areas with equipment that emit noise and vibration.
May spend extended periods of time at a computer workstation.
