Summary:

The goal of the Facilities team is to ensure all ASPCA locations are fully operational so that staff and volunteers have optimum conditions to meet their program and department goals. In addition, the Facilities team ensures a healthy environment for all staff and for all animals that visit our locations, whether on a short-term or long-term basis.

Under the general direction of the Senior Facilities Manager the Roving Maintenance Technician is responsible for multiple repairs and maintenance tasks throughout the day which include, but are not limited to: equipment maintenance, special event support, basic plumbing and electrical work, light vehicle maintenance, snow removal, carpentry, painting, and inspection of fire alarm and generator systems throughout the Behavior Rehabilitation Center and ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance facilities.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

General Building Maintenance: (90%):

  • Assist the Facilities Manager to maintain/ improve the overall condition of ASPCA facilities; as well as the overall function of building mechanical and operating systems
  • Must travel between assigned locations to handle assignments.
  • Notify managers concerning the need for additional supply inventory or major repairs.
  • Conduct routine facility testing and inspections, including, but not limited to: fire extinguishers, fire panels, exit lights, emergency lights, fire alarm systems, generators, medical gas systems.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance throughout buildings and facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures and maintenance issues throughout the facilities.
  • Plumbing repair, including, but not limited to: Replace/ repair toilets, flushometers, wax/ felt rings, flanges, faucets, traps, shower stems, shower heads, clear/ unclog drains using a plunger/ auger/ drain cleaning machine.
  • Electrical repair, including, but not limited to: Use electrical testers such as a multimeter or voltage/ current tester, replace light bulbs
  • General repair, including, but not limited to: repair/ replace locks, hinges, push bars, doors, door stops, door closers, sanding, spackling, caulking, replacing/ repairing sheetrock/ cement board/ hard backer, painting, floor/ wall tile, carpeting, furnishings, glass frosting, countertops, carpentry, mounting items such as pictures/ paintings/ shelving on walls, furniture/ equipment assembly
  • Ground keeping, including but not limited to: maintain grounds by utilizing tools such as hedge trimmers and weed whackers, remove litter from grounds, remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, in and around front of facility, using snow shovels, snow throwers and snow melting chemicals and spreaders
  • Report any discrepancies or deficiencies to supervisor
  • Use hand/ power tools to perform general repairs; which includes, but is not limited to: screw drivers, wrenches, power drills, impact drivers, sanders, taping/ putty knives, utility knives, hammers, electric drain cleaners, augers, plungers, multimeter, saws, Dremel, inspection cameras, compressors, etc.
  • Assist with office moves, moving furniture, equipment and tools as necessary
  • Maintain all cleaning solutions in accordance with OSHA requirements for hazardous chemicals
  • Supervise the fire panel, conduct lamp tests on fire panel, troubleshoot fire system trouble signals, and respond to activated alarms.
  • Take the fire system offline with fire alarm monitoring service to prevent unwarranted alarms when there is a non-threatening faulty condition, or work is scheduled that could produce a false alarm.
  • Supervise and inspect fire panel and its components in compliance with Fire Department and DOB rules and codes
  • Transport supplies across ASPCA facilities, temporary work locations and special event sites (e.g., emergencies and special events)
  • Clean and organize tool storage; keeping work areas neat always
  • Available for overtime, as required, at all ASPCA locations
  • Complete all other tasks assigned to you by the Facilities Managers and Directors

Administrative (8%):

  • Coordinate with vendors/ contractors about maintenance and repairs to appliances, including, but not limited to: stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers and washing/ drying machines, boilers, HVAC systems, electrical, plumbing, locksmiths, carpentry, general repairs, etc.
  • Access work order system, update assigned work orders and assist Facilities Managers in assigning tasks to self, senior custodian and custodian teams as needed
  • Inform Supervisor of needed supplies
  • Order parts and supplies as directed

Fleet (2%)

  • Perform vehicle maintenance; included but not limited to: checking tire pressure, filling tires with air, adding windshield wiper fluid, checking and adding antifreeze, oil and transmission fluid, replacing headlamp or tail lights
  • Schedule and take vehicle for maintenance and inspections
  • Safely operate all vehicles and other job-related equipment

Qualifications:

  • Read and write fluent English (Required)
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints and floor plans (Preferred)
  • Skilled in plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical and completing general repairs (Required)
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools (Required)
  • Moderate computer skills (Required)
  • Physical capacity to handle heavymoving and lifting of at least 50 lbs., standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, repetitious arm and wrist movements(Required)
  • Ability to follow directions in productive and timely manner(Required)
  • Able to work well as a team member with a neat appearance and a respectful attitude (Required)
  • Reliable, able, and available to work assigned shifts including weekends or evenings as needed (Required)
  • Strong communication skills required (written, verbal, listening) (Required)
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to drive when necessary (Required)

Training, Certificates of Fitness and Licensing Requirements:

  • OSHA 10 Hour (Acquired within the first 90-120 days)
  • Previous experience in facilities maintenance or general repair (Required)
  • Previous experience making general repairs and working in the skilled trades (Required)
  • Previous experience in testing and inspection of Fire Alarm Systems and other related systems and their components (Preferred)
  • Previous experience in supervision of Piped Non-Flammable Medical Gases (Preferred)
  • Previous experience handling and dispensing flammable or combustible liquids (Preferred)

Compensation and Benefits:

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future.

The target hiring range for this role is $23.00 - $24.68.
