The minimum and maximum salaries for this job role are below:

Minimum Salary - 72,000.00

Maximum Salary - 90,000.00


The Role


To provide legal and operational support to Aspen’s Group and US Legal teams

Key Accountabilities


  • Contributes to the preparation and implementation of the operational team plans to ensure these include operational considerations for delivery.
  • Determines own work priorities and activities in line with agreed plans to ensure the achievement of personal and team objectives.
  • Benchmarking of delivery to plan objectives
  • Management team feedback
  • Relevancy, accuracy and timeliness of contribution to operational plans
  • Supports the Legal team’s initiatives and ensures that practical legal support is provided to the business and assurance functions.
  • Proactive and responsive support in the provision of legal advice.
  • Plays an active role in the development and maintenance of procedures within the Legal Team.
  • Assists in administration of legal projects, in particular administration of preferred legal supplier lists, contract database, etc.
  • Adheres to legal standards and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency in line with process control time frames and internal best practice.
  • Contributes to the recording and measurement of legal risks to ensure accuracy, good practice and adherence to relevant performance standards.
  • Understands and complies with any legal requirements to minimize risk and to deliver business plan objectives.
  • Ensures that files are maintained in a logical and accessible manner and/or other legal issues are clearly documented at all times.
  • Ensures awareness of and compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements and changes, including listing standards.
  • Makes improvements to existing processes and controls, where identified.
  • Compliance with Service Level Agreements.
  • Compliance with best practice, regulatory/legal requirements and Aspen processes and policies.
  • No legal or regulatory breaches.

  • Assist Group General Counsel with Group Legal projects, including scheduled and ad hoc SEC filings, including Form 20-F annual report.
  • Assist Group General Counsel with Disclosure Committee protocols and Group-level corporate compliance and governance initiatives.
  • Ability to resolve legal queries within areas of delegated authority.
  • Positive feedback from key stakeholders and colleagues.

  • Reporting deadlines satisfy stakeholder requirements.
  • Satisfactory audit from internal underwriting audit.
  • Maintenance of accurate and up to date records.
  • Assist Group General Counsel with AIHL corporate secretarial functions, including for the AIHL Board & Group Management committees.
  • Manage Group-level Aspen legal files and documents, including the administration of the Group’s legal panel
  • Assist US General Counsel with US entity governance, company secretarial, corporate and transactional initiatives as needed
  • Assist US platform in matters related to licensing and product development.
  • Carry out specific research tasks to ensure business objectives are met.
  • Assist Compliance team with ad hoc projects as may be required from time to time

Skills & Experience


  • A basic understanding of the interpretation of contracts.
  • Good working knowledge of company systems.
  • Thorough awareness of how the activities of the Legal team link to achieving Aspen’s business objectives.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office products and strong IT skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly.
  • Able to manage conflicting priorities to achieve deadlines.

  • Degree level education (or equivalent)
  • Some legal training, with broad experience in both/either legal and/or insurance sectors.
  • Part qualified in professional discipline.
  • Project experience and/or exposure to project management an advantage.
  • Experience and familiarity with SEC and NYSE frameworks and requirements an advantage
