Job Description
The Canine Coordinator is a member of the Ski Patrol and is responsible for coordinating the training and management of highly effective canine avalanche rescue dog teams. This position is also responsible for performing the essential functions of a Ski Patrol Advanced I to maintain an efficient, well organized, and enjoyable environment for skiing guests and employees while consistently greeting and engaging our guests on all parts of the mountain.
Essential Job Functions
Coordinate the avalanche rescue dog program
Maintain individual training logs and certification status as outlined in the ASC Rescue Dog Program Guidelines
Act as a liaison between Pitkin County Sheriff, Mountain Rescue Aspen, and various avalanche deployment agencies
Maintain an active working knowledge of the snowpack, avalanche terrain and hazard mitigation history
Lead avalanche control routes and maintain an intimate knowledge of all avalanche terrain within the ski area boundary
Assist in training patrollers in avalanche rescue
Participate in out of area avalanche rescue as directed by the Ski Patrol Director
Perform general patrol duties as necessary including care and transport of injured skiers, lift evacuation, trail maintenance, etc.
Seek opportunities to enhance guest experiences, and initiate guest contact
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Expert skier able to ski all terrain in all weather conditions for extended periods required
High school diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of Outdoor Emergency Care or EMT with current American Heart Association CPR certification required
Formal Professional Level 1 avalanche education certification preferred
State of Colorado Type 1 explosive permit preferred
Past attendance of CRAD Winter course, WBR International Dog School, or equivalent

Supervision given and received
Supervision given: Exercises general supervision over canine teams. Assigns a variety of routine tasks, sets general expectations of results expected within company’s policies and procedures.
Supervision received: Works under limited supervision of a Patrol Supervisor or Patrol Director. Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and is responsible for establishing strategic methods to attain them. Can formulate policies but does not necessarily have final authority for approval. Review of work is not detailed and emphasizes accomplishment of broad work objectives, rather than specific assignments.
Work Environment and physical demands
Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
