Position Description
The Plant Manager is responsible for the entire operations of our manufacturing plant. This includes the management and coordination of daily activities to ensure high performance and production at all times. Other duties include ensuring company policies and procedures are followed as well as assisting in the onboarding process of new hires and providing training and educational materials to direct supervisors.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Major areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
- Drive and lead the safety of all plant operations, human resources and equipment. Commit and support all safety procedures and policies. Is the plant safety champion.
- Provide leadership through mentoring and coaching of the team that becomes a way of doing business and filters down throughout the organization.
- Manage manufacturing productivity, capacity, efficiency, and flexibility to meet all requirements from the sales organization and customers. Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations.
- Implement strategies in alignment with the overall corporate strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus to subordinates.
- Set goals and objectives for the plant that are realistic and attainable.
- Delivery of an on-time and quality product to the districts and distributors that meets and or exceeds their expectations. Does not accept poor workmanship and requires in depth root cause analysis of the reasons or causes for product failures.
- Embrace a fast-paced environment that requires a sense of urgency in relation to the needs of both internal and external customers.
- Monitor equipment and ensure that it is in good working order.
- Establish goals and action plans that encompass cost reductions, product introductions, sustainability, environmental, human resources, and sourcing. Provide a clear sense of direction and focus to the team.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the team from front-line assemblers to the highest level of management regarding plant activities and initiatives.
- Manage by example and hold subordinates accountable for their performance and the results thereof on a continuous basis. Advise and mediate when needed. Allow subordinates to make decisions, plan and offer suggestions. Support a team environment where everyone can participate in resolution of situations or circumstances.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are followed at all times.
- Build a relationship of trust and confidence among the team.
- Recruit, hire and onboard staff who are compatible with the existing staff and who can align with the overall company strategy.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position requires the following essential knowledge, skills and abilities in order to satisfactorily fulfill the Manufacturing Process Engineer role:
- Minimum, Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering position; Master’s degree preferred.
- Ten years or more or proven experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Five years or more experience of demonstrated success in a manufacturing leadership role.
- Must be knowledgeable in fabrication/assembly processes and manufacturing practices, procedures and policies in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of production processes, production flow, bill of material, inventory control, shipping and ability to deliver customer products on time and on budget.
- Must have a good understanding of Lean/Six Sigma, single flow manufacturing. Maintain a strong aptitude for root cause analysis and troubleshooting operational issues
- Must have a good understanding of regulatory requirements for operating a manufacturing facility.
- Inactive with the manufacturing team by engaging with the supervisor and production employees.
- Strong team building, decision-making and human resources management skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Ability to objectively review, understand and organize data.
- Intermediate to advanced computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite). Baan experience would be a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers; problem resolution skills; understand competitive market; ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume environment.
- Detailed oriented, well-organized; self-starter; ability to work under minimal supervision.
- Dependable and self-motivated.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is primarily moderate to loud.
