Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Operation Programs and Services (OPS), Sustainability and student government.

 

Associated Students is now hiring for the position of CAVE Student Operations Specialist. This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no less than 8 hours per week, and no more than 20 hours per week, while school is in session.  The pay rate is $16.00 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. To be eligible for student employment, you must be enrolled at CSU, Chico and maintain at least 6 units (undergraduate student) or 4 units (graduate student) throughout the course of employment.

SUMMARY 

Operations Specialists provide operational support for the CAVE office, including customer service and administrative support.  This position is a one academic-year appointment which requires 5-15 hours per week depending on programming needs.  This position is required to be available to begin work one week before fall semester begins.  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Complete requirements as outlined on Staff Agreement  
  • Provides exceptional customer service and is knowledgeable about CAVE programs and practices 
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of CAVE operations desk, storage areas, and general office space. This includes pushing in CAVE chairs, wiping down and sanitizing tables, cleaning up trash and keeping the office space tidy and welcoming. 
  • Perform tasks supporting fundraising, recognition, and other special events  
  • Perform word processing and maintain data base management systems 
  • Maintain staff documentation (staff lists, staff attendance at meetings, events) 
  • Process volunteer applications including scheduling of pre-volunteer meetings  
  • Oversee the volunteer database management systems (Excel) 
  • Volunteer digital file systems: setting up files for beginning of semester and purging files in accordance to record retention policies 
  • Keep files on server (Box) organized 
  • Follow protocols relating to asset protection 
  • Participate in 3-hour CAVE Service Project 
  • Publicize CAVE Fundraiser   
  • Complete daily office opening and closing protocols 
  • Attend weekly program meetings  
  • Attend CAVE staff training  
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships within the Wildcat Leadership Center and in the community 
  • Other duties as required

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS 

Work is performed in The Wildcat Leadership Center at Bell Memorial Union; continuous contact with staff, campus community and public; possible contact with animals. Must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILTIES REQUIREMENTS 

  • Demonstrate strong leadership, organizational skills, customer service and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – specifically Excel, Word and Outlook 
  • Adapt skills and approach to support diverse populations  
  • Works well in a variety of settings including independently with little supervision, one-on-one, and in a team environment 
  • Identifies problems and/or concerns relative to CAVE and recommend viable solutions 
  • Balance multiple duties at one time while adhering to deadlines 
  • Work in shared office space effectively and professionally with student and career staff  
  • Attend mandatory AS employee orientation and trainings as well as CAVE-specific trainings and meetings 
  • Interpret and implement current AS and Chico State policies and procedures 
  • Must be currently enrolled in 6-units CSU Chico. (Open University, Continuing Education, or Butte College Units not applicable) 

 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

  • Must have 1-semester of CAVE volunteer experience  
  • Committed to using inclusive language and contributing to an environment that welcomes all people
