JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, International Membership and Chapters is responsible for developing and assisting with tasks and projects related to the Membership and Chapters Department at the international level, focusing on Canada, Latin America, and the EMEA region. Tasks include developing strategies to increase ACC membership and programming, assisting international Chapters with completing requirements, and implementing recommendations to deepen global member engagement that strengthen the visibility and strategic positioning of ACC worldwide. This is a full-time, exempt opportunity reporting directly to the Senior Director, Membership Initiatives & Chapters, working a hybrid schedule based in our Washington, DC office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist the Senior Director with the development of membership growth and retention strategies. Set targets and manage the delivery of campaigns designed to retain existing members. Attract new members to international chapters in Canada, EMEA region, and Latin America. Analyze campaign and program-wide results to ensure growth goals are being met and adjust strategy, as necessary. Provide analysis of existing programmatic and membership materials, membership retention rates, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Assist in creating and updating membership and marketing materials, including emails, newsletters, webpages, event announcements, welcome packets, fact sheets, surveys, and others.
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from members and prospective members.
  • Liaise directly with ACC chapter leaders to address general concerns and challenges, increase membership growth and retention, and work on chapter governance-related issues.
  • Liaise with ACC APAC staff to improve cross-border communication, knowledge-sharing, and synergy. This includes providing new technology updates and assisting with global promotion of international conferences.
  • Provide assistance and orientation training to any new international Chapter Administrators.
  • Generate prospect leads in the above regions by maintaining strategic partnerships with key regional stakeholders by collecting direct leads, utilizing event registration reports and social media, conducting research on new membership opportunities, and promoting membership via partnerships or third-party affiliates.
  • Serve as the liaison for requests for assistance and information about ACC services from members, prospective members, ACC staff, international in-house/bar associations, and other third-party groups, in the above regions, follow up as needed.
  • Assist new and developing non-US chapters with event organization and provide follow-up, as needed.
  • Prepare and update competitive analysis on conferences and services offered by competing membership organizations.
  • Liaise with the Corporate Membership team to ensure international chapters are kept informed about acquisitions, renewals, and cancellations.
  • Research and implement innovative and new technologies and liaise with IT to ensure quick and effective adoption of new platforms – to benefit internal and external parties.
  • Provide other duties and services as requested.

EDUCATION

  • Associate degree in international business, communication, marketing, or related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in areas of communication, development of programs, member resources, and/or marketing. Preferably in a professional association with autonomous chapters.
  • Experience working within an office environment and working with a diverse customer base.
  • Having worked outside the US is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and cross-cultural skills with the ability to work across functions, and with culturally different constituencies and personalities, including members, chapter officers, staff, and contacts at external organizations.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision and prioritize tasks. Very high attention to detail.
  • Must possess a customer service-oriented demeanor and mature, solutions-oriented approach to problems/conflict.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office Suite/Outlook, database management, social media, event and marketing platforms, graphic design tools, and website content management systems. Adept at learning new technology.
  • Superb oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to demonstrate good judgment, critical thinking skills, and a sense of teamwork and community.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently but demonstrates good judgment to inform and/or seek guidance from superiors as situations may warrant.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, vendors, and the public.

LANGUAGES

ACC seeks to hire multi-lingual candidates. Fluency in English and a second language is preferred.
