Overview
The Regional Controller is an action-oriented numbers aficionado and people leader who ensures all aspects of the accounting function are completed in a smooth and timely fashion. He or she provides consistent, excellent client service in all interactions with employees, clients, and insurance carriers in working through any escalated issues or challenges. Additionally, the Regional Controller will manage the Accounting team and others involved in the implementation of new accounting procedures and processes. By spearheading innovative practices and standards, the Regional Controller plays a pivotal role in minimizing financial risks to the organization, which ultimately leads to maximizing the health of the overall company.
Responsibilities
LEADERSHIP
- Assist CFO in oversight of the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and management reports
- Roll out corporate initiatives and maintain a solid internal control environment at the direction of the Controller
- Provides accounting support and services to all divisions and affiliates, in a timely and courteous fashion
- Provides leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; creates and promotes a positive and supportive work environment
SYSTEM & FINANCIAL STATEMENT MAINTENANCE
- Maintains systems and controls that are consistent with the MMA Controllership Playbook which ensures the integrity of all systems, processes, and data
- Responsible for assigned Balance Sheet accounts, including but not limited to, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations and significant expense accruals
- Supports MMA with Concur oversight and reporting for T&E purposes
- Responds to MMA/MMC Controllership group on all Revenue Recognition issues and testing
- Responsible for proper revenue recognition
- Responds to internal and external auditor requests in timely and complete manner
- Assists Controller with gathering data for annual tax filings
- Analyzes financial statement variances and questions as requested
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or related field required
- 5 or more years of public entity experience in a sales organization. Annual revenue size $250M
- Accounting system conversion experience
PREFERRED:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with specific ability to effectively interpret and explain accounting comparison/analysis results in a manner which those outside of the department will be able to comprehend
- High level of organization and the ability to set and recognize priorities
- Advanced degree – CPA or MBA preferred
- Insurance industry experience helpful
