RESPONSIBILITIES: The Unit Clerk is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties relating to the updating and organizing of information on the nursing unit; coordinating work within the unit as well as with other departments and facilities; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries and requests from personnel, relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls, etc.
- Helps patients by responding to requests, obtaining needing supplies for registered nurses, licenses practical nurses, physicians, aides, and other hospital personnel.
- Answers telephone and routes calls promptly.
- Notification of discharges and admissions by notifying team, documenting it on communication tools, business, and patient transporter services.
- Maintains unit supplies inventory by checking stock.
- Maintains nursing area and lap area clean of clutter.
- Assist on floor in emergency situations and meals.
- Maintains the proper storage of supplies.
- Maintains logs: COVID, discharge, MSO, laboratory, and others designated by the Director of Nursing and Administrator.
- Maintains census for any changes, and admissions and discharges.
- Maintains and logs in EMR all valuable and belongings on admission and discharge.
- Upload all patient rounding sheets.
- Maintains a variety of records including admission, transfer, discharge, changes in director numbers, telephone repairs performed and the like.
- Assists in typing and filing as requested.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Clerical skills: Previous office or administrative experience, effectively manage multiple tasks at a time, such as data entry, filing, answering phone calls, and greeting patients.
- Communication: Both written and verbal communication skills are crucial, able to clearly convey ideas and positively interact with others.
- Computer skills: Computer skills to enter data, fill orders, transcribe paperwork and respond to emails, etc.
- Customer service: Customer service skills can help provide excellent care to patients who need assistance. Unit clerk must be personable and helpful to those they interact with.
- Organization: Strong organizational skills
- Prioritizing: Possess the ability to prioritize and manage tasks.

EDUCATION: Medical Assistant or equivalent required. Health care industry experience
