What are the responsibilities and job description for the Oracle Database Administrator position at Assurant?
The Staff Engineer (Oracle) role is under limited direction, is responsible for design, provision, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of systems hardware, software, and related infrastructure. This may include overseeing, directing, and checking work of less senior engineers. The incumbent will help define strategy and adoption of new technologies in a single domain. Provides engineering design and support for multi-tenant platforms in a single domain including hardware, software, automation and monitoring.
Responsibilities:
- 60% - Primary role is to ensure the global stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the systems and infrastructure that support core organizational functions, as well as to conduct/lead research on new and emerging technologies for practical application to business problems and strategic initiatives.
- 20% - Experienced knowledge of job role demonstrating advanced application of technical skills and interpersonal competencies
- 20% - Provides direct global technical leadership and support for all requirements in developing strategy, planning, coordination, scripting, and implementation of releases, upgrades, or changes to our distributed computing environment. This includes managing several small to medium-scale projects and/or tasks of various complexities across the enterprise.
- This position requires incumbents to regularly sit at a desk and operate standard office equipment such as a computer and phone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to talk and hear. Required to use hands navigate computer controls. - This position requires the ability to travel 20% of the time. Also, potential to have a sliding shift start/stop times to ensure we have global coverage 24/7. This will be a WFH position that will require the ability to potentially be in the office 1 day a week.
Basic Qualifications:
- 1 or more years of hands-on experience installing and supporting Oracle databases (versions 11g, 12c, 19c)
- 2 years of experience engineering and administering RDBMS
- Experience using ServiceNow ITIL managed processes
- Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud and related technologies
- Familiarity with at least one compiled language
- Some hands-on experience managing IaaS and PaaS in Microsoft Azure
- An understanding of Oracle database internals (locking, partitioning, security, Data Guard, cloning)
- Basic understanding of dependent or closely related technologies to Oracle databases (OS, server, storage, network)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or Management Information Systems, or equivalent experience. Base education is a CIS or MIS degree with at least 1 years of technical experience in design, deployment, and support of complex RDBMS technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to learn and adapt to changing technological landscapes
- Ability to work with and communicate to a wide range of customers (both internal and external)
- Ability in PL-SQL or closely related declarative language
