Description:
The Accounting Specialist is an essential member of the Finance Team. Manages grants, grant requirements and grants budgets, and assists in the management of the organization budgets. The Accounting Specialist works in a fast-paced environment, must be able to accept a structured work environment to meet deadlines and work well under pressure. The Accounting Specialist provides executive management and program managers with the information they need to make fiscal decisions.

Prepare grantor/customer invoices and cash request on schedule; follow-up as needed to ensure collection. Enter into the accounting system as well as record receipt of payment.
- Track budgetary obligations to prevent overspending budgetary line items as well as training agreements and similar contractual commitments; collect and verify outcome documentation to support invoices against Training Agreements.
- Ensure vendor and subgrantee invoices are complete, correct, and compliant with contracts, grants and/or training agreements.
- Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly, etc.) grantor reports as required by state, federal, county, etc. regulations.
- Assist with budget process to include collecting and analyzing data, setting up and quality checking the spreadsheets, creating reports for management.
- Assist in closing the books: accruals, amortize assets and allocating cost pools as needed.
- Assist with annual Audit and subgrant monitoring by creating schedules, assembling documentation and being available to answer questions.
- Create and update budget vs actual reports for managers.
- Maintains ongoing communication with managers regarding needs and budget status.
- Produce additional ad hoc financial reports for stakeholders as required, including close-out reports, balance sheets, schedules of expenditures by program or at corporate level, Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards, etc.
- Monitor financial activity in an internal audit capacity and alert appropriate level of management.
- Maintain a clean work environment including sharing responsibility for common areas.

- Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
- Strong computer and database management skills.
- Proficiency with automated systems and willingness and ability to learn new software packages.
- Five years of progressively responsible grant accounting experience.
- Experience working with Federal, State and County Grants.
- Experience working with Sage Intacct software.
- Experience in a nonprofit accounting environment.
- Demonstrated ability to perform multi tasks in an environment where priorities can change rapidly.
- Ability to assist/train co-workers.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Proficient problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively adapt to change.
- Ability to thrive and excel in a growth environment.
- Demonstrated leadership skills as well as working on a team
