Job Requirements

Pathology Assistant (PathA)

• REQ: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program and Board of registry certification through the American Society of Clinical Pathology PA(ASCP). A minimum of three to five years relevant work experience.
• A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either an accredited instructor from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross

• Under general supervision, the Pathologists’ Assistant, independently examines, prepares, describes, and dissects various surgical specimens from the simple to the highly complex. The Pathologists’ Assistant aids in the supervision and training of resident physicians, and pathology fellows in dissection procedures and techniques. Responsibilities include prioritizing workflow, examination, and dissection of routine to highly complex neoplastic cases, submission of tissue for histological analysis, procurement of tissue for ancillary studies, summarizing and dictating medical histories and gross findings, assuring appropriate specimen accessioning, photographing specimens, and performing frozen sections for pathologists’ interpretation. The Pathologists’ Assistant assists with the operational management of grossing activities, quality and safety initiatives, interdisciplinary meetings, tumor boards, and adheres to all quality, safety, compliance, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
