JOB SUMMARY

EMERGENCY ROOM TECHNICIAN 

This is a fast-paced Level II trauma Emergency Dept. including Peds. Must have acute facility experience. Advanced EKG testing required. The ER Tech is responsible for working closely with Doctors and Nurses to help patients receive immediate medical treatment. Their duties include monitoring a patient’s vital signs, including blood pressure and heart rate, updating loved ones on the patient’s condition and assisting Doctors and Nurses during procedures.

EDUCATION

Completion of a course in the operation of an EKG machine; on the job training may also be acceptable by some facilities.

LICENSURE

None; optional credentialing is available through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International.

EXPERIENCE

At least 2 years of experience.

CREDENTIALS:

CPR as required by client facility; health and screening tests as required by specific facilities and/or regulatory agencies.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Various client facility settings; possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with ATC policies/procedures.
  • Complies with client facility policies/procedures.
  • Documents accurately and completely services provided.
  • Maintains confidentiality relative to patient care and facility practices in accordance with the Healthv Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Communicates information effectively to appropriate personnel.
  • Complies with accepted ethical and professional standards of conduct. • Positions patients for testing.
  • Applies electrodes in proper position for conducting the test.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the purpose, operation and care of EKG machines; procedures to be followed in conducting tests; anatomical nomenclature; manipulates dials, switches and moving parts of equipment; and recognizes defective and unsatisfactory operation of EKG equipment and make the necessary adjustments and minor repairs.
  • Provides patient services in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that considers cultural diversity and age appropriateness so that autonomy, rights, and dignity are preserved.
