Job Overview

A product specialist is someone who possesses in-depth knowledge about a specific product or range of products within a company's portfolio, specifically lighting, electrical, and home tech for residential applications. Their primary role is to understand the features, functionalities, and benefits of the product(s) they represent and effectively communicate this information to potential customers, clients, or other stakeholders.

Product specialists often work closely with our designers, marketing, manufactures, and product development team to ensure that the product meets market needs and is effectively promoted to the target audience. They may also provide training and support to sales staff, answer customer inquiries, gather feedback for product improvement, and stay updated on industry trends and competitor products.

Overall, a product specialist plays a crucial role in driving the success of a product by ensuring that it is well understood, effectively positioned in the market, and meets the needs of its intended users.

Qualifications

Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as business, marketing, engineering, or a related field is often preferred. Some companies may require a master's degree for more senior positions.

Product Knowledge: Deep understanding of the product(s) they represent is essential. This includes knowledge of features, functionalities, competitive advantages, and how the product solves customer problems or meets their needs.

Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with the home building industry in which the product operates is crucial for effectively positioning the product in the market and understanding customer pain points and preferences.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effectively conveying complex product information to various audiences, including customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.

Presentation Skills: The ability to deliver engaging presentations and product demonstrations is often required, especially in roles that involve interacting with clients or conducting training sessions.

Analytical Skills: Product specialists should be able to analyze market trends, customer feedback, and competitor products to identify opportunities for product improvement and development.

Customer Focus: A customer-centric mindset is essential for understanding customer needs, gathering feedback, and ensuring that the product meets or exceeds customer expectations.

Sales and Marketing Acumen: Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is beneficial for collaborating with sales and marketing teams to develop effective strategies for promoting and selling the product.

Technical Skills: Depending on the nature of the product, proficiency in relevant technical skills such as software applications, data analysis tools, or knowledge of industry-specific technologies may be required.
