Who we are looking for:
We are currently searching for a Cost Accountant for our Phoenix, Arizona facility. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this position will have responsibility for various accounting responsibilities including the development, maintenance, and analysis of plant standard costs by reviewing manufacturing related impacts and cost changes.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field with up to 2 years relevant experience with in a manufacturing environment. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a plus.
What you’ll do:
- Support development, maintenance and analysis of plant standard costs
- Review updates of BOMs, routings and impacts of cost changes
- Analyze annual standard costs updates
- Analyze standard to actual cost variances. Recommend corrective actions as indicated by performance to meet P&L and working capital targets.
- Review and perform JDE manufacturing accounting closing of production work orders
- Perform financial analytics pertaining to month-end close
- Participate in monthly operations accounting close and reporting activities in a timely and accurate manner
- Assist Accounting Manager in the preparation of the Monthly Operations Review deck
- Analyze & prepare monthly purchase price variance accounting
- Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
- Work with plant staff on various ad hoc requests
- Maintain strict confidentiality of company information, financial or otherwise
- Work closely with the Operations Management team on various ad hoc requests
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent work experience.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly with excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize various software applications and financial reporting data
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to quickly and efficiently research and interpret financial data
- Business acumen sufficient to perform analysis independently.
- Capacity to perform at a high level in a fast paced multi-tasking environment.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Experience with JDE software preferred
Within 3 months, you’ll:
- Complete your Atkore immersion program.
- Understand how your job will deliver Atkore’s strategy.
- Gain an understanding of the Accounting team and how we support and deliver results.
- Gain an understanding of the manufacturing process and materials needed to produce products for our customers.
Within 6 months, you’ll:
- Build effective working relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Fully understand the planning, scheduling, procurement, and inventory processes as well as labor planning for production.
- Begin to develop, report and provide meaningful data needed to analyze cost metrics.
Within 12 months, you’ll:
- Deliver on projects that positively impacts the business.
- Provide support for key initiatives that deliver Atkore’s strategy.
- Help find opportunities and bring new solutions with a focus on continuous improvement.
