Summary: Responsible for supporting the daily operations of Breezeline’s High speed data, voice and advanced digital services. Will also support Tier II call center and commercial escalations. Practices initial troubleshooting before escalation to engineering staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned. Implement and maintain routers, switches, CMTS’s, optical transports, terminal servers and firewalls, in an enterprise/Carrier class network to ensure optimum performance Participate with team to design and test network changes and additions to ensure very minimal disruption to the production system Troubleshoot and analyze hardware and software during outrages as well as during scheduled maintenance Develop documentation related to protocol and architectural changes, as well as technical documentation for supporting staff and running journals Review reporting and IT Metrics, communicating metrics to all department in the company Coordinate with network equipment vendors to ensure that all hardware and software currently implemented is up-to date and bug free As part of a team, design, scale, analyze and load-testing network bandwidth for all data services, telephony as well as all LAN/WAN/MAN traffics Technical knowledge preferable associated with DOCSIS, Packet Cable, and Packet Cable, and packet Cable Multi Media Concept and hands-on experience in load balancing hardware (layer4-7 switching) Routing protocols (BGP, OSPF/ISIS, E/IGRP, and redistribution) Switching: Concepts in design, protocols (STP, VTP, QOS) 802.1Q Familiar with Nagios, Cacti, tcpdump, iperf, traceroute etc. network monitoring and trouble shoot tools Participate in On-Call rotation for network engineering team Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Experience in working with database software, design software, development software, internet software, project management software, spreadsheet software and word processing software. Excellent written and oral communication Knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology. Knowledge in network designing software. Knowledge in network monitoring tools. Associate’s degree in an Information Technology area or equivalent experience. Cisco CCNA or equivalent certification preferred. Knowledge of switching technologies (802.1Q, STP, RSTP, PVST etc) required. Knowledge of routing protocols including OSPF and BGP required. Advanced knowledge of all DOCSIS equipment and solutions Advanced knowledge of CCAP and other developing standards Advanced Knowledge of DOCSIS Modulation profiles Advanced Knowledge of TFTP, TOD, CM files, and other related provisioning elements Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP and ICMP are required. Knowledge of optical fiber microscope inspection and cleaning procedures required. Knowledge of 1 and 10Gbps Ethernet required Knowledge of Cable Headends Knowledge of RF Distribution networks. Education and/or Experience Associate Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two years college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. The ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of extensive of technical in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
