Description

The Atlantic Council’s Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center (AALAC) expands awareness of the new Latin America across diverse communities of influence by positioning the region as a core partner in the transatlantic community. Young Global Professionals joining AALAC will work with regional experts to broaden understanding of regional transformations and deliver constructive, results-oriented solutions to inform how the public and private sectors can advance hemispheric prosperity. AALAC Young Global Professionals will support a wide range of our thematic and country-specific portfolios, gaining valuable experience in Latin American and Caribbean economic and political issues.

 

The successful candidate will have a passion for the work, an entrepreneurial ethos, and a collegial spirit while also being an effective communicator. With a work culture of continual learning, an inclination toward deadlines and a demonstrated interest in international affairs, a background in Latin American policy, economics, or security issues through class work and/or experience is strongly preferred.

 

Applications reflecting strong writing skills will be prioritized for consideration. This internship is preferably based in our Washington, DC headquarters on a hybrid schedule.

 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research to support the activities of AALAC.  

  • Manage AALAC contacts and knowledge.

  • Draft correspondence and take notes at roundtables and strategy sessions for program archives.

  • With colleagues, oversee and coordinate logistical and operational functions for program events and activities. 

  • Help draft policy briefs, blog posts, memos, articles, and other publications. 

  • Support AALAC development as needed.

  • Conduct media outreach to promote events, publications, and writings.

  • Support AALAC in creating and updating content on its website using WordPress.

Qualifications


  • Must be at least a college junior in good standing, a graduate student or a recent graduate, preferably majoring in International Relations or any relevant field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written – live and virtual), including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence. 
  • Experience with social media campaigns, website maintenance, email marketing and/or experience are desired.
  • Aptitude and strong skills in research and writing are required.
  • Strong analytical, planning, time management, and organizational skills are critical for success.
  • Poise and professionalism in a team environment across hierarchies with colleagues and counterparts in the United States and abroad.
  • Must be available to work full-time (40 hours per week)
  • Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is strongly preferred.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
