The Technical Writer supports our Department of Defense (DoD) client by developing and updating US Navy test documents. You will research available engineering/development information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications to write specific sections of the test document. You will also interview engineers, software developers and other technical personnel. The ideal candidate for this position will have proven technical writing experience in a technology-driven program or project supporting the US Navy. Pay Range: $80,524 to $115,205, depending on experience
You Will:
Develop, prepare, and maintain test documentation for US Navy Information Technology systems, following Government policy/instructions/standards.
Revision and validation of project specific technical documentation.
Obtain and track official document ID numbers and uploading to government sites.
Update specific technical documentation to adhere to government standards.
Provide reports of documentation progress, status, and issues.
You Have:
US Citizenship.
Possession of and ability to maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Level Security Clearance.
Strong documentation and oral communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate and interact with all levels of technical and management personnel.
Experience eliciting feedback and inputs from engineers, technical staff, and program management staff.
The ability to generate, revise, and maintain technical, programmatic documents such as test documents, procedures/guides, reports, and briefs in support of Sustainment Engineering efforts.
The ability to manage projects, tasks, and special assignments independently as a self-motivated professional.
Education/Experience:
A minimum of least five (5) years of professional experience as a technical writer.
Excellent knowledge and ability with Microsoft Office Suite and tools, and Adobe Professional or similar.
Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Computer Science, or a related field preferred, but other degrees may be considered in combination of education, professional training, or work experience. Or five (5) years of additional related professional experience in lieu of a degree.
We would be impressed if you have:
Experience with Government (US Navy or other DoD) documents, processes, procedures, and/or terminology.
Working experience and knowledge of any of the following documentation is considered a plus: SOVT, SOP, SOM, IETM, Technical Manual, PITCO, SDD, Test Plans, Load Plans, BESEP.
A computer hardware, software, or technical background is a plus.
