Purchasing Buyer

Job Description

Responsible for acquiring materials and placing purchase order for goods. A Buyer acquires materials, negotiates prices and terms, and places purchase order for goods; and develops and qualifies new supply and vendor sources. Maintains approved Supply/vendor list. Prepares and tracks purchase orders through the purchasing process. Input changes into the purchasing system. Prepares and files purchasing related documentation. Adhere to all established procedures as defined by ATS Quality Procedures, Process Flows, Work Instructions, Safety Procedures, and the Employee Handbook.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 
  Purchasing of materials
• Purchase requisitioned parts with consideration to required dates
• Approve and compile an approved vendors list which meets ISO requirements
• Work with managers and/or designers to handle any purchasing problems that arise
• Source alternative vendors/parts/ship methods as necessary to meet manufacturers schedules
• Negotiate cost/service with vendors
• Enter and order all miscellaneous orders using the “Materials Requisition Form”
• Maintain files of confirmed P.O.’s for pricing record and history
• Expedite parts and measure/hold vendors accountable for on time deliveries
• Resolve P.O. and invoice discrepancies for accounting department
• Meet with suppliers to develop relationship and resolve issues
• Return materials to vendors as required
• Assist the technicians/shop supervisor to resolve purchasing issues as required
• Comply with all company and department ISO operating procedures
• Create / process reports as required

COMMUNICATIONS

• 
  Supply Chain Manager - Issues needing management attention or approval
• Project Managers - Relate information on material delivery times or problems
• Machine Shop Coordinator – Issues pertaining to manufactured parts and materials to produce the manufactured parts.
• Engineers - Verify specifications for purchasing requests
• Provide cost estimates to ATS personnel as required

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in business or equivalent relevant experience

EXPERIENCE: Two years purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred. A working knowledge of expediting purchase material is essential. A working knowledge of PC based Microsoft applications for business is preferred. Must have ability to work with and communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
