What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Agent - Generic Pharmaceutical position at Auburn Pharmaceutical?
To monitor and optimize warehouse inventory levels at all times, create purchase orders, build & maintain vendor relationships for Auburn Pharmaceutical while sustaining positive working relationships with all departments. Ultimately, you will make cost-effective purchases and ensure we maintain a fully stocked inventory for both Auburn distribution centers.
Job Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Hours: Standard hours are 8:30 am-5:00 pm, with the possibility to work a flex schedule between 8:30 am-6:30 pm based on business needs and managerial discretion.

Essential Functions:
- Research potential vendors, track orders, ensure timely delivery, develop ordering strategy to maintain appropriate inventory, identify needs, set up new items, conduct market research to identify pricing trends and communicate with internal sales team to keep ahead of our competition
- Work on special orders and specialty items, government bids & large one-time orders
- Create monthly reports and assist the accounting department resolving issues, problematic purchase orders, billing/open items, facilitate and authorize corrections, dispute inaccuracies providing correction
- Maintain fluctuating pricing strategy updating changes daily/or as needed, rotate stock electronically, create methodology to move soon to expire product
- Work closely with receiving handling damages, shortages, shipment errors, and correct inaccuracy with logistic companies that ship and receive our products. Work with Chargeback Vendors, contact manufacturers, request credits, returns handling and all related issues
- Work on transferring product internally from warehouse to warehouse to fulfill needs and maintain steady inventory levels keeping company costs to a minimum
- Assist the Purchasing Manager with special projects, reports, usages to manufacturers and other recurring tasks that are done monthly and quarterly
- Work in compliance with the established company policies and procedures, with local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- All other duties as assigned by a manager or supervisor.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- The ideal candidate must have 3 or more years in Purchasing as an assistant, or similar role, would also work/worked in a pharmacy, with a clear understanding of what Generic drugs are and how the wholesale/distribution market works in the pharma industry
- Experience working with a distribution company, vendors and suppliers, knowledge creating purchase orders, evaluating inventory levels, projecting and forecasting, plus familiarity with warehouse operations
- Proficiency in Microsoft office products, (esp. Excel), Outlook and MS Word
- An understanding of the AS400 or IBM systems is IDEAL knowledge to posses
- Solid organizational skills
- Candidate must be fast learner, team spirited and able to work in fast pace setting.
- Familiarity with the medical industry/pharmacies, NDC’s, generic and brand name drugs a bonus
- Must have reliable transportation
- Read and interpret statistical reports and utilize mathematical skills to interpret financial information
- Make business decisions based on your own experience and personal opinion
- Deal with the general public, customers, employees and government officials with tact and courtesy
- Change activity frequently and cope with interruptions
- Speak and write clearly, accept the full responsibility for managing an activity
