April 26, 2024 EMPLOYMENT NOTICE Applications now being taken for the following position: Industrial Maintenance Instructor 2024-2025 School Year (Anticipated Vacancy) Valley Career & Technical Center Valley Career & Technical Center (VCTC) is seeking a full-time Industrial Maintenance Instructor. We are looking for an energetic, enthusiastic person interested in sharing their knowledge and experience in Industrial Maintenance and/or related areas to prepare the next generation of highly trained employees. EDUCATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONSPossess, or willing to obtain a valid Virginia Technical Professional license in the specified subject area. Demonstrate the ability to instruct, evaluate and supervise high school students in Industrial Maintenance, Welding, and/or a related field. Documented a minimum of five (5) years’ experience or 4,000 hours of work experience in Industrial Maintenance or related field. Demonstrate evidence of the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with high school students, parents, business and industry representatives and school administration or related field. Last work experience must be no older than 2 years from current time. BASIC KNOWLEDGEProven experience or knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical systems, industrial electricity, motor controls and/or programmable logic controllers, gears, bearings and lubrication. Demonstrated ability to operate general shop fabrication tools and equipment. Basic experience using a variety of welding processes and equipment such as: Shielded Metal, Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc welding (GMAW), Flux Cored Arc, Welding (FCAW), and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW). Knowledge of general machine maintenance and installation of machinery. Knowledge of relative safety standards and practices ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIESSupervises student conduct to ensure that the potentially hazardous shops/labs/classrooms provide an orderly environment conducive to productivity. Maintain a well-organized, safe, and clean shop and/or classroom Advises students of the importance of safety in relation to machinery, tools, and equipment. Builds strong relationships with students; Demonstrates a continued willingness to learn and apply new skills based on current research and best practices; Uses appropriate instructional strategies to promote student learning; Uses comprehensive materials, technology, and resources to promote the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills; Maintains an inventory of equipment, controls storage, repair, and usage of materials in order to minimize loss or abuse. Keeps in contact with business and industry so that the curriculum can be updated to reflect changes in high-tech society. This is a full-time position to begin immediately.
