Maintenance Group Manager

Schedules work and supervises assigned maintenance staff in the performance of their duties. Resolves mechanical problems; installs and repairs process equipment for all water production facilities within the guidelines of department policies and regulations and supervisory instructions. Works with facility operations staff to ensure water production facilities maintain compliance requirements and trains water production employees concerning maintenance issues. Reports to SuperintendentMechanic/Fiber. Works with water production co-workers to provide support.  Performs 24/7 “ON-CALL” 

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff. Responsible for employee concerns/problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical and instrumentation problems. Rebuilds, replaces and repairs water production equipment. Ensures adherence to established safety procedures and guidelines by conducting safety inspections and training.
  • Trains and assists subordinate personnel as needed. Assist maintenance personnel on major maintenance projects and ensures all work activities adhere to work orders, required specifications, and proper working and operating condition. Communicates with supervisor, employees, and the public as needed to coordinate work activities.
  • Utilizes and maintains accurate information regarding equipment maintenance activities in the GBA work order and equipment information systems.
  • Assist in training programs and works with teams. Monitors budget and maintains active records via Maestro or best available technology software.

Education:  High school diploma or GED  {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}

Preferred: Technical training in Industrial Maintenance


Experience:  Seven (7) years experience in mechanical or piping system maintenance.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:                                            

  •  Considerable knowledge of progressive management concepts and mastery of industrial mechanical maintenance skills
  •  Considerable knowledge of maintenance practices
  •  Considerable knowledge of the water systems of Augusta and EPD rules and regulations
  •  Good communication skills, both oral and written
  •  Demonstrated ability to work independently or with a team
  •  Established ability to perform in stressful situations
  • Must have ability to actively listen to others to understand their needs and work well with others
  • Supervises & answers emergency services call as needed.
  • Strong people skills.


Certification:  Possess or have ability to the Fiber Certification-ETA International  

 

License:  Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If state license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.

Physical Abilities: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors:   Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, traffic hazards, bright/dim lights, animal/wildlife attacks, or animal bites.

Other: 

  • This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
  • Travel from office to other locations is required of this position.
