NURSE EDUCATOR
EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
BASIC FUNCTION:
The role of the nurse educator is to facilitate educational opportunities throughout the organization by assessing learning needs, creating and providing learning opportunities and evaluating the effectiveness of the education provided.
JOB DUTIES:
1. Will cross-train to all functions of the department and may be assigned primary responsibilities for any of the following:
a. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
b. BLS – Basic Life Support
c. NRP – Neonatal Resuscitation Program
d. PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support
f. ONA Providership
g. Outside Student Experiences/Clinicals
h. Nursing Orientation
i. Proficiency Days/Skills Days
j. Resource Center
k. Policies and Procedures development and committee member
l. Equipment (department is responsible for glucometers, manikins, etc.)
2. Participates in committee work as assigned.
3. Must possess the following skills and characteristics:
a. Clear effective communication including verbal, nonverbal and written.
b. Comfort with presenting information for diverse groups of people.
c. Able to prioritize, be adaptable and flexible to changing needs, excellent time management skills.
d.. Must work well with others across all departments and disciplines.
e. Possesses critical and creative thinking skills
f. Must be enthusiastic and a supporter (even enforcer) of organizational change.
g. Able to lead by example: in behavior, communication, attitude, and following the Planetree Tenets
h. Places educational activities in Learning Management System
4. Responsible for checking emails and online learning assignments on a regular basis.
5. Educates diabetic patients on nursing units
6. All other duties as assigned.

AGE APPROPRIATE CARE:
Colleague has been instructed in providing customer service and on interacting with age groups as related to the department’s general client population: including use of appropriate interventions, communication and skills to match the age and/or abilities of the patient/ family.
MACHINES, TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USED:
Must be knowledgeable in equipment and supplies used in the nursing units and throughout the organization. Of particular importance are computer software skills.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
Valid State of Ohio RN License
BSN, Master’s Degree preferred
Specialty Certification preferred
BLS required within 3 months, Instructor certification within 12 months. Must be computer literate to complete task(s) as required. Such as MediTech (hospital Support software), Halogen (performance appraisal system), Relias ( education system), ability to retrieve e-mails, complete online enrollment for health insurance/benefits and any other programs as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to stand/walk to various hospital departments intermittently through a 7.5 hr. shift.
- Able to sit at a desk for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Able to bend to reach items on the floor, desk level and overhead.
- Able to lift books and supplies weighing 25 lbs. intermittently.
- Able to see clearly and hear normal speaking tones.
- Able to communicate verbally interpersonally and over the telephone in a clear and concise speech.
- Dexterity necessary to write legibly and type for long periods; up to four hours at a time.
- Visual acuity to proofread.
