The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) invites applications for up to two post-doctoral researcher positions to work with Drs Matilde Mingozzi, Alessandra Aloisi, Bethan James and collaborators, including Drs Svea Hernandez, David Law, Claus Leitherer and Nimisha Kumari, on observational studies of the multi-phase (cold and warm) interstellar medium, chemical and physical conditions in metal-poor star-forming galaxies, considered analogs of high-z systems. This research will be devoted to the analysis and interpretation of mid-IR spectroscopic observations with MIRI MRS on the JWST, UV spectra with COS and STIS on HST, and supporting optical ground-based and mm observations. The aim is to explore the conditions of the warm molecular Hydrogen, the CO-dark gas and their comparison with the conditions of the ionized gas and ionizing sources in nearby galaxies hosting pristine environments. Part of the successful applicants' time may be available for independent research or new projects. The nominal start date is expected to be in Summer/Fall 2024, but other dates are negotiable. The initial appointment is for two years, with an expected renewal to a 3^rd year subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Science, or related fields at the start of the post-doctoral researcher position. Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desirable: (a) UV/optical spectroscopy and IFU data analysis; (b) interstellar medium studies; (c) emission line diagnostics; (d) data reduction from space-based/ground-based observatories; (e) chemical evolution of galaxies; (f) photoionization modelling. More important is the willingness to take on new projects, learn new skills, and work independently to bring these projects to fruition.
