Duties/Responsibilities:

Summary: Under the principal's supervision, the English Language Arts 6th-8th Grade Teacher will provide quality instruction aligned to the state and national standards. Use various diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment strategies to inform instructional decisions and increase student self-management of learning.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develops and administers school middle school curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small-group instruction and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Coordinates with other middle school professional staff members, especially within a grade level and specific subjects, and to evaluate and assess curriculum.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Supervises students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Collaborates with other staff members and participates in faculty meetings, Aurora professional development opportunities, and committees.
- Participates in various student and parent activities in school, including curriculum nights, parent/teacher conferences, and school events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred not required.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of middle school curriculum and concepts, including all subject matters taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted during work.
- Current MN teaching license in English for grades 5-12, 7-12 or Communication Arts & Literature for grades 5-12, 7-12 or possess ability to obtain an alternative teaching license (Tier 1 or Tier 2). Inquire for more information if clarification is needed.
- Must be 18 years or older at the time of employment, possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License or state identification, satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, and comply with organizational and district policies.
- Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.
- Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
